Many women who are in abusive relationships stay out of fear. It's very easy for someone who has their head screwed on straight to say, "Why not just leave him? I'd leave!" But a woman with low-self esteem is likely to stay out of fear. As for why she was calling, they do have a child together, there are things to settle if they're splitting up. As for why she was recording him - sometimes even the most frightened woman will finally get the spine to start looking out for herself. Him being a huge celeb, she may have been advised by the police or by her attorney that she needs to get him on tape to prove anything.

And really I have to be honest here - I'm not even going to look at this and say "she's a life ruining golddigger!" If he's talking to her like that, making death threats and is clearly unhinged, then she's smart to get it on tape. I don't care how popular or beloved he is with the fans - if he was Joe Smith from down the block, people looking out for her would say, "Get that shit on tape."

Also, remember, even though Tom Cruise isn't THIS crazy, no one knew about the nuttiness till he parted ways with his manager press people, I think. If Mel has recently parted ways with the people who were able to keep the crazy under wraps, you never know what's going to leak out.

His long time manager/representative passed away very recently (April, I think). The managing company dropped him when this crap started coming to light.

I wanted to listen last night when I was finally able to get on line here at home. But it was 8 minutes, and I honestly didn't have time since I wanted to check in with you guys and then hit the books. Maybe tonight, I really have to study though.
