If you are going the Spanish (not Egyptian) route, then yeah...Javier Bardem would be a good choice. But you know who I'd rather give it to?

Antonio Banderas.

Think about it.
- He's older, so he'd have the 'mentor' feel about him more than Javier would.
- He's got charm. He'd be able to do bring out the Connery-Ramirezisms with relative ease.
- He looks like a womanizer. THAT was part of Connery's charm in the film...I pictured him banging women left and right for centuries.

eta: Vin's mention of Armand Assante would be intriguing for Ramirez as well...

Plus you know Ramirez would occasionally 'schmack' them in the mouth.

Weird call on Assante. If he can pull back the "Judge Rico" crazy just a skosh, and amp up the charm... he could pull it off. Sorry, guys... but the scenery he chews in Dredd is still fucking amazing.

He was the absolute BEST PART of 'Judge Dredd'. He was the ONLY person in the film who 'got it', as far as I'm concerned.

- He was great in 'Q&A'.
- He, along with Michael Wincott, stole '1492: Conquest of Paradise' out from everyone else. Shitty movie, but they were both absolutely ACES in it.

- 'The Hunley' - he's amazing as a Civil War commander.
- 'Gotti'
- 'The Mambo Kings'

Very solid actor with great presence.
