  • That's my big issue with the game. They spent so many resources making the single player content stand out, and it does (arguably to its detriment) that it is WAY behind the two other big MMOs (Wow and LOTRO). It's going to be a fine game, and I won't give anyone shit for playing it, but they want to compete against WoW...and that's just not gonna happen. They'll have a nice big initial opening, I wouldn't be shocked if they hit 1mil subscribers in that first couple months, but they will have to have an expansion out quick as fuck to keep those numbers.

Reading more on it, because I did enjoy it, I have discovered they absorbed Mythic (Warhammer MMO team) to make this. And no WoW designers jumped ship to work on it. That's a red flag for me, because man, Warhammer shit the bed big time.

I did. Back in my day it took forever to hit sixty, and we didn't have no newfangled things like Curse to point the way to less headache-inducing UIs or quest helpers.

You have all become slaves to the tools you use.

      • You say that like it's a bad thing. If there is a better way to do things why do it the shitty way?

        • It separated the men from the boys.

It was a crucible. And alts were seen as horrors created by those with the sort of free time only found in prison.

Excuse an old fool for reminiscing about a golden age, before I had something else to occupy my time.

          • I understand the nostalgia and I'm not saying things should be like auto-pilot but to take things back to a level they were four or five years ago to separate men from boys? Not sure I'm feeling that.

                • Though the concept of phasing gradually folded into this game would be quite lovely, this whole thing kicked off its development years beforehand.

Maybe you'll see it eventually, but not everything has to go by WoW's structure. It'd be the least painful transition to a new property if it did, but that just doesn't happen.

                  • Oh I get that, I'm not looking for WoW with star wars license. I'm talking about the utilities it offers. Story structure and gameplay can be totally different but why not have some tools that help the experience. They can be different tools or even better, but to have none?

                    • Like Rob said earlier, WoW wasn't boxed as the game it is now. It took painstaking work, trial and error, and a whole bunch of research to get it to where it stands today.

So yeah, deal with it for now if you want lightdildo action. If not, you can always hang out in Azeroth while they evolve.

                      • This game wasn't developed in a vacuum, they were aware of what the other games had going for them.

                        • Wow didn't have the slow pace that TOR does though. 1-60 took fucking MONTHS to do, but the game moved fairly snappy. You got your quests and went on your way killing shit. I don't want to have a 3-5 minute conversation required every time I am told to find 5 speeder parts and kill 10 space wolves. That's the pace issue I have, not the pacing of hitting levels.

And curse? my god man, that's dead. The questing add on that is. Blizz built that shit in and it is wonderbar.

                          • Don't have time for another timesink at the moment. Hell, I haven't touched SKYRIM in two weeks...sad.

Glad to hear this is good, though.

No one is saying it was dude. They're doing their own thing. Keep playing WoW.

I don't see why it has to be an either/or type of thing though. Why can't I play both? Why can't I make a critique without someone shitting on my parade? Also I haven't played WoW since Skyrim came out so it's not like I'm living in Azeroth to begin with. Why is acknowledging that WoW got some things right such a bad thing?

Don't get me wrong, from what I've played SWTOR is fun but it suffers a bit from pace and a few other areas. Will those areas be improved? Probably. Should I ignore them now and paint the game as a utopia it's not? I don't think so.

But I'm the pussy who needs to play more WoW so what do I know.
