This seems most likely. Probably to service some point about how the circle of violence can never be broken or some such nonsense. At this point it really seems like Sutter thinks he's way better than he actually is. Eventually I want to go back and watch the earlier seasons again to see if they're as self-important as the last few years.

and yeah, that scene with Jax and Bobby right after was heart breaking. That was one of the first times Charlie Hunnam has actually acted in this show.
