Price is good but the subwoofer is bad... I have heard this system, the 5 speakers in a small room sounds great, medium size sounds ok, a large room, not good at all.. The Sub just does'nt pack a punch like a sub should. Yamaha has good-great speakers but not a single sub they make sounds good I.M.O.P. .I should know i install the stuff day in and day out..

This is probably the type of thing I'm going to ask for for christmas. Don't know what the folks' price range is going to be, but I would guess not much more than what that thing costs. Its looks like it might due the job, i am not a big fan of Philips or DVD player/surround sound receivers.. I know I know what's the deal with being so picky... Well for me i have been installing Home Theater Systems for 8yrs, have been with 2 companies and on on monday going to another one... So i have delt with a lot of HTIB systems ( Home theater in a box)... Don't get me wrong, some are good, but most are bad.. If this is your budget then go for it. I would just buy the Receiver and DVD player seperate.. Also with the sub, try to make sure it has a built in amp, rather than having the reciever give it juice..I'm Asian. Ya I understand that the budget would be a concern, the reason i say have the DVD and receiver separate is only because, with the combo units, usually if one part breaks the other part follows very quickly after that... at least with separate parts, if your DVD player stops working, there is 99% chance that your receiver will not fail..I'm Asian.
