UGK - Ridin' Dirty; Definitive Houston rap album, and in the opinion of a lot more than myself the greatest rap album ever. Jay-Z still rips off lyrics from it.
Faith No More - Angel Dust; Do I need to explain this one? If so, sit in time out.
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction;
Led Zepplin - IV; Stairway. Levee. Evermore. Obvious.
All of THESE. Especially UGK. They really are the quintessential Houston sound.
Obligatory DMB mention- "Before These Crowded Streets". Not only is it the culmination of what their songwriting and musicianship was building to under Steve Lillywhite's wing, with the small interludes between songs it works as a fantastic suite from top to bottom. Alcoholism and depression be damned, Glen Ballard caused about 41 million steps backward with the follow-up "Everyday".
I'd also throw "Graceland" and "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner" on this here list.
Shit I'm going home and putting on the DVD while I cook tonight. La Mer is so, so, so good. The Fragile is great when you get stuck in traffic or know you have a long drive ahead of you. Just put it on and roll.
totally rocked out to "The Fragile" last night while putting together the second bedroom. So much win.
