I could have sworn I've seen bread that is half rye/half pumpernickle right down the middle.
When we were on vacation, I had toast at this one breakfast place that was half rye/half pumpernickle swirled together. I'm guessing they just took both kinds of bread dough, laid one on top of the other, and then rolled them into a loaf shape. It was SO good!

'Bout fuckin' time. I was wondering what took us so long to get to this.
104. Pecorino Romano Cheese On an impulse yesterday, whilst taking a spin thru the cheese section at my local Stop & Shop, I bought a wedge of this stuff. Cut off some slabs to eat with dinner (penne w/ red sauce, and some roasted garlic bread from the bakery section). I had forgotten how good this stuff really is. It's terrific grated in large quantities over marinara sauce soaked pasta (hell, almost any pasta for that matter), but IMO even better eaten in hunks as a table cheese. It's very salty (which is a large part of the reason I like it), so it's probably not suitable for that purpose for everyone. But it's got a nice waxy, almost crumbly texture and a hit of sheepiness (it is a sheep's milk cheese). Nowhere near the depth of flavor of parmigiano reggiano, I'll grant you. But it is a hell of alot cheaper, and enjoyable on a different level. I was so disappointed my son didn't like it. He thought it was too salty. Oh, well. More for me!
I like the way the line runs up the back of the stocking.
