  • Tony was THE MAN, though. Time to find a copy of 'the Manitou' and honor his memory.

Greg Giraldo was a damned funny man. He will be missed.

    • Tony Curtis had a great career. Greg didn't. Not up to his talent.

            • In all seriousness, I think I'm gonna try and do a double feature of 'Some Like it Hot' and 'The Manitou' this weekend.

              • Wow - what a week!

Interestingly enough, with all the articles about Tony Curtis' career that are online today, there's quite a lot of new info and a big clarification that I never knew.

Somewhere around here when I first joined, I wrote a blurb about Marilyn Monroe's time on the set of "Some Like It Hot." It wasn't a happy time for her for many reasons, but one of the famous quotes from Tony Curtis was that "Kissing Marilyn Monroe was like kissing Hitler" - leading people to believe for decades that the two of them didn't get along.

Actually, the opposite was true - Tony Curtis had an affair with Marilyn twice in the 50s, and they started up again on the set of "SLIH". Turns out the "Hitler" remark was meant as a joke - as Curtis put it, "It was a stupid question, so I gave it a stupid answer just to be funny. Of course it was wonderful to kiss Marilyn Monroe!"

At the time of their affair, Marilyn was married to Arthur Miller, and Janet Leigh was pregnant with Jamie Lee Curtis - however, apparently Marilyn became pregnant during their "SLIH" affair. It was strongly believed by both Marilyn and Curtis that the baby was his, although Arthur Miller insisted it was his child. Didn't matter - she miscarried in December, and at that point, she and Tony ended their affair.

So there you go - I've been a fan of Marilyn's since I was in high school, and I only found out all of that information today.

                            • Other than Steven Bochco, (Who I once saw at a Dodger game ten years ago) I can't think of any other guy like him who is alive.

JJ Abrams and Joss Wheedon aren't in that league.
