I will grant you that, yes, a lot of those costumes do look trashy, and I rarely see any women I know dress that way for Halloween.

I saw ONE girl last year wearing a truly great costume, and it was a sexy one, but it had a point to it. She and her boyfriend were dressed as Peter Venkman and Dana Barrett, and they just completely went all out on the costumes. I honestly have never seen so much attention to the very last detail as I did with these two - and yes, she had on the sexy, off the shoulder red dress that Sigourney Weaver had on in the movie, but that was the point, and she and her date both looked amazing. Every single other girl on the train was a variation of "Slutty Little Red Riding Hood/Dorothy/Policewoman/Nurse/Witch", etc. You could tell they ran into Ricky's the night before and bought the costume. The girl and her boyfriend dressed as Venkman and Dana must have worked on those for a solid year, and it showed - in a packed subway car of trick or treaters, they were the only ones who stood out. The other girls just thought they did.

Sounds cool, Lisa, and very imaginative. Again, it's been quite awhile since I or my wife got dressed up for Halloween, or gone to any costume parties, so when I see the outfits advertised it does arch my eyebrows a bit and fogs my glasses. Besides, I'd rather see folks doing cosplay at conventions - those costumes can be sexy, but most of those are handmade and show a TON of work going into 'em, like your Venkman and Dana example. Much better than crap you can find at your local costume store.
