The Dark Knight Rises (SPOILERS!)

There are legit arguments and then there's petty bitching for the sake of nitpicking (a la How did Bruce get back into Gotham?) Just as many plot-holes in Begins and Dark Knight as there are here.

Both flicks are popcorn spectacles with big plot holes.

My main thing is that none of the Nolan Batman films engaged me. When I'm not into the story, then the plotholes and inconsistencies stand out and annoy me. I was thoroughly engaged while warching THE AVENGERS, though. As such, those plotholes and other things didn't bother me.

I will agree there were niggling things in the previous installments, but there was also a sense of fantastic newness to them that was not present in Rises. That and Newton Howard's comparatively subtle cues were skullfucked into cumdust by Hans Zimmer and his drum section.

There was a certain emotional investment in the tragedy of the making or undoing of a hero, where Harvey or Bruce were the central figures that made for something compelling to watch. Rises lacked this as the stakes were placed so far out of the sort of immediacy you and I would be a part of previously. Too decompressed to push anything that could or should have mattered to the forefront. Things just happened without any payoff.

It really upsets me as a Batfan that they'd get sooooooo close in Begins, push further in Knight, and just use autopilot in this one.

I'm gonna go on the record as saying that I think The Avengers IS a better film - purely in the hoops it had to jump through to pull off what it did, its quite the achievement.

I just love the way Pfister shoots things (his retirement from cinematography had better yield some fucking spectacular directorial efforts) - watching the Nolan films is always a pleasure just looking at the actual images. And I love nearly all the performances in all three films (Holmes and, sadly, Modine are obvious low points).

Modine was more worthless than Anthony Michael Hall.

Modine was just really miscast. If you're casting that part from Full Metal Jacket actors, get Adam 'Animal Mother' Baldwin in there. That guy needs more work.

My favourite cameo of the series: Carcetti as the cocky company guy in the TDKR prologue. His cocksure swagger is priceless.

Modine is the asshole second-in-command weaseling his way into Gordon's job. Then he pussies out, then he find the ca-ca-courage to stand up at the end. Hot wife too.

Had no problem with him.
