  • Leary looks at home with the "pissed off dad with a gun" role.

    That second image is bizarre.

He's a perfectly affable contributor to society.

            • Second pic showed up. Wish it hadn't. Also Russ's avatar looks like one of those guys from the ice cream truck song.

                • Gotdammit, even the costume for the wrestling scene is fucked up. Bring me the head of the asshole costume designer who thought these were good ideas. Ugh.

Let's avoid the semantic argument and just agree that your psyche has remained relatively unscathed by Ramon.

Those were the worst line deliveries, just cringe-inducing.

With that negative assessment out of the way, his doofy Peter faces were the greatest.
Thanks, mate! I recently went back to the first one, really excited to see it again, but also slightly concerned that it might not hold up as well; and that I might see what others see in Tobey's performance. It played even better to me than it did initially though... and I loved it from the get-go.

Those line deliveries (and Tobey's performance in general) worked so well to me that I was really surprised when I discovered everyone didn't feel the same way. I just assumed that would be akin to disliking Lloyd Dobler. Those moments to me said "this is Spider-Man." Didn't even notice the goofy faces until years later when a friend pointed them out.

Even though talking about this reminds me how disappointing it is that Raimi's done with the franchise, I'm still truly excited for this new movie. I can understand people not thrilling to the pictures and what have you, but not this cat.

                          • I never had a problem with Maguire in the role, although I do understand some of the criticism re: the delivery of the wisecracks. Sometimes they worked, sometimes not so much, but there weren't as many of those from Spider-Man in the first film at least. That's more so because I'd only seen Maguire in dramas (although he did pull off some slight comedic beats in flicks like Ride with the Devil and Wonder Boys), so I wouldn't expect him to throw out zingers.

Had they gone with Topher Grace, a guy fresh off a sitcom where he could be counted on to snap off a one-liner in costume, and still come off as a nerd as a civilian, it might've been more gooder. He sort of proved that in SM3 when he was kissing JJJ's ass.

But, hey, Emma Stone as Gwen! Nice!

                            • With all of the webhead they're showing, I'm sort of surprised that they haven't shown Connors yet.

                              Or his two-armed alter-ego.
