Watched RED last night. I have no previous experience with the comic, so I can't comment there, but I really liked this a lot. Brian Cox is incredible as the flamboyant Russian spy, and Malcovich as the nutjob was great too. Everyone was really appreciating the chance to ham it up. Mary Louise Parker is completely wasted though.

Nice to know RED delivers.
Me and the missus watch Punisher: War Zone.
A very poor movie shot in Montreal (it's ridiculous, it also has a lot of cheap local actors) that is completely elevated by the sheer VIOLENT INSANITY OF THE ACTION.
So I liked it. A lot. The rocket/parkour kill is one for the legends.
The Trostky
Want to know Montreal a bit, watch this.
A nice little movie featuring a good performance by Jay Baruchel (a MTL native, and he'S great in this) as a student who thinks he's the reincarnation of Leon Trotsky, and seek to unionize his father's factory. Pretty funny.BACONBACONBACONBACONBACONBACONBACONBACONBACONBACON

True Grit
I'm not sure how I feel about it and I find that the best Coen brothers films don't quite play 100% the first time but upon repeat viewings, show themselves to be great. The first 45 minutes are flawless. Hailee Steinfeld is amazing. All the other established actors are doing fine work indeed (Damon kinda got the hardest part and rises to the challenge, but Bridges, Brolin and Pepper are all really, really good). But there's something in those final 20 minutes that lost me, not least of which was the worst back projection scene I've seen in years. While this may well have been a stylistic choice, it is nevertheless a blight on an otherwise GORGEOUS film. And I'm talking, Jesse James gorgeous. I need to revisit the film very soon just to re-evaluate those closing minutes.
However. Before I begin to sound like I'm down on the film, I'm close to loving it. The humour was unexpected, but as it comes from character more than setup, it fits in and adds a lot of bite to the more violent scenes. The set-pieces are expertly designed, from the claustrophobic, Raimi-esque interrogation gone wrong, to the Pepper gang siege, to the climax, its further proof (after Miller's Crossing, Fargo and No Country) that the Coens logical next step is to do a really action-heavy film, perhaps similar to a 70's Walter Hill. They've got an eye for space and camera placement that serves their set-pieces expertly and keeps them unique.
So in summary, I want to love it and nearly do. Only time will tell if I will.I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane.

Trainspotting
I don't think anything new can be said about Trainspotting at this point. It's one of my absolute favorite films of all time (novels as well). It's damn near perfect. It was Brittany's first time watching it, and it seems to have stuck with her. She's really getting into the discussion about the movie. Hopefully she will read the novel and Porno.

Kaboom
Seeing how the only other Gregg Araki film I had seen was Mysterious Skin. I decided to check this movie out last night. I don't know who are fans of this guy's stuff but this movie goes full retard real fast. Complete with an incredibly pointless roommate/lesbian with magical powers subplot.
However, the colors and photography look great and have a comic book like feel which I hear goes for Araki's other films. Plus with his constant breaking of the "Looking at the camera/forth wall rule" and music selections. Also, there's quite a lot of female nudity in this movie for something that you'd think would be a lot *air quotes* gayer.
The director was there along with the cast and the only thing I came from that Q&A was that Thomas Dekker can play a really good lesbian right now.
Finally, it's been said this movie got a ten minute standing ovation at Cannes. I have no idea why."Everything is amazing right now and no one is happy" - Louis C.K.
