Although the 9mm is not my flavor of choice, with 147 grain loads, it's a potent stopper... and easier on the wrists of an inexperienced user.

The Ruger is inexpensive, reliable and fairly accurate. Plus it has a Picatinny rail for tac-light mounting, which I highly recommend.

Can't go wrong.
