Internet Security 2010 virus

Anyone get this before?? Anyone know how to get rid of it?? Am I just fucked??? If you have never seen this before, basically what it does is tell you that you have a virus and tries to scan your computer to kill this virus, then it tells you that you have to buy software to kill this virus. I haven't bought anything and my laptop is currently off and everything unplugged from it..

I read some sites that say what I can do to fix this problem, but every answer seems different. I thought i would come here first to see if you guys had any thoughts...

Lots of viruses try to force you into buying software to clean it up, so that's not a novel idea. Can you do a restore? Have you already run adaware, Avast, etc?

I currently have done nothing... I want to make sure that I do the right thing....

Yeah, what you need to do is run antivirus, then run spybot, then more than likely perform a restore to a few weeks back if you can.

AND NEVER INSTALL A PROGRAM TO REMOVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. Unless it's a well known anti-virus program or spybot.

The AV virus ain't only on porn sites now, it's everywhere. Like CHUD.

I have Malwarebytes, and I have a fixexe.reg on tab in case I get it again, as the AV virus fucks with the registry so you can't start a program.

That's EXACTLY what hit me on CHUD. Shoot a message to Mike and he should be able to help you out. I got it fixed by paying $100 to Norton, fwiw.

So this AVSoft shit that CHUD had, is there anywhere else currently deploying this to unsuspecting surfers on the regular? It looks like I've received it twice in the past three days. I don't think it's me because I use Firefox with adblock, no-script. I'm pretty sure it's my wife because she uses IE. But as far as I know she only uses Facebook and browses online shopping.

My AV software/firewall has caught it both times before I start getting the non-stop pop-ups. It looks like it also deletes it from the registry because I go in to delete those folders and they aren't there. Might there be something else I'm missing? Like I've said before, I'm not really a computer genius.

grave: if you DO see those fake popups asking you to scan your drive for viruses, be sure and close them out by using Alt-F4...DON'T CLICK ON THEM OR TOUCH THE DIALOG BOXES IN ANY WAY. EVEN CLICKING THE RED X TO CLOSE THEM ACTIVATES THE VIRUS. Alt-F4 does the trick. Tell this to your wife as well.

You might still have the original virus. It has a nasty way of moving itself around.

The best way to get rid of a virus and also the cheapest is to format the hard drive and start a fresh install of Windows. If you have something that you want to save on your PC go spend $50.00 and get a fatty external hard drive. It will take about 30-40 minutes to format and install and it will be like a new computer again.
