    Metal Gear Solid series

    I've been playing these games since the original back on the NES. Obviously the game got super awesome with the PS1 release. Then came the sequel on the PS2 and pissed off alot of people with the addition of Raiden, and the VR plot and Vampires , etc etc. Then MGS3 hit and it seemed to go back to basics. If by basics you mean bosses like "The Fear, who has supernatural flexibility and agility; The Fury, a disfigured former cosmonaut armed with a flamethrower and a jetpack; The Pain, who can control hornets to both defend himself and attack his enemies;and The Sorrow, the spirit of a deceased medium.".

    Now I fucking love this series, weird Japanese ideas and cinematics and all. Now we have the 4th and supposdly last MGS coming out on the PS3 in June. Already have it pre-ordered and have my beta code for the online portion. I went and picked up Portable Ops this weekend for the PSP and forgot how much I love these games. Anyone else picking up the 4th one?

    hahaha. shouldn't your question be more like, "viet, have you reserved this this?" considering me and you are the only ones that HAVE a ps3. damn wankers, they don't know of the ps3's potential... and yes, i have reserved a copy. not getting the collectors edition though cause it's not as epic as gta4 or fallout. god fallout 3's collector's edition is bananas!

    i liked the 2nd mgs but really never got into #3. i might check it out but with gta4 and mgs4 coming out, there might not be able time... although, i've been considering portable ops for the psp...

      Haha. For real. They need to get on the ball and have both the PS3 and the 360. And I did reserve the collectors edition for this as opposed to GTA. I'm a way bigger fan of MGS than GTA, but nothing beats that Fallout Collector's edition.

      And 3 was awesome, minus the camera issue but I guess they fixed that for the Subsistance version. And Portable Ops isn't bad but it's hard as fuck right now. But if you do get, get the original and not Portable Ops +

        don't forget about the bobblehead. i NEED to change my pre-order to the ce for fallout 3.

        are there two versions of portable ops on the psp? and would you say mgs 3 was better than mgs 2? cause i was one of those few that enjoyed mgs 2.

          I liked 2, but I loved 3. I think because it was more "lo-fi" as it were, and I liked the eating animals and camo gameplay. It's completely different from 2 though. But if you are goign to check out 3, look for the Subsistance version, as they made the camera alot better. And there are two versions of Portable ops for the PSP.

          Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops = awesome one with good reviews
          Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops + = not as good apparently with meh reviews.

            Yeah if you play MGS3, you need to play the Subsistence version. The 3D camera makes that game damn near perfect. I loved MGS2 but MGS3, especially with the new camera, really improved on MGS2. Who wouldn't love eat snakes?

            As far as Portable Ops goes, get the original, Portable Ops+ is basically DLC for Portable Ops, without the downloading. You only get the new missions, which are basically new "VR Missions" without the VR, on the Portable Ops+ disc, if that makes sense. Porable Ops gives you the single player story and online multiplayer.

              But maybe it's just me, but Port Ops is fucking hard. I for the life of me can't stay alive.

                Yeah it can be hard. Just make sure to build a good squad and build up their health and stamina. Also try to capture as many of the special characters as you can or use the cheat codes to unlock them. They help out a lot.

                  Jesus. I haven't even remotely gotten into this game yet after reading over those cheats.

                  I knocked out one guard and dragged him to the truck and it took fucking forever. Please tell me it's easier to capture people because that was ridiculous.

                    Yeah, if you place soldiers around the map, all you have to do is drag soldiers to a box one of your soldiers are hiding in and tell them to take the prisoner to the truck.

                      Also, place a bunch of knocked out soldiers at once, near your soldier, and they will all be taken. That saves time as well so you don't have to send them one by one.

                        OMG. You good sir are a life saver. I didn't get an instructional manual with my game (go used games! WOO!) so this is all new. This game is a kind of a bitch without a manual. How do you build up stamina and health?

                            They slowly build up health and stamina the more battles you take them on. I think it's +1 per mission for both health and stamina. There is a max but I forgot what it was. I think it's +50 or +100 whatever they first started with.

                              Thanks for the tip.

                              Jesus. Honestly I've played for like 3 hours already, and only got one soldier. And I keep dying. How I do I sneak around with my solider? Like I know how to "sneak", but Roy said if I use soldiers that look like other soldiers in whatever mission, I should be able to walk around, but as soon as a NPC sees me the alarms blare and I get shot down like a punk.

                              For once I wish I had a goddamn manual.
