Super into The Division. Hit level 8 and ventured into the dark zone with my friend last night. We were under level as dark zones are split up (DZ01, DZ02, etc) by level brackets. The first is 10-14, which means NPC enemies inside are between those levels. And all NPC's in dark zones are elites. They hit harder, but they also have a fuck load of armor. Once the armor is off they melt.
So my friend and I run right into a pack of NPC. 6 of them, all between level 10 and 12. One named dude "Cowboy." It seems like you'll always find a named NPC in these packs, and apparently if you take him down the other guys will be weaker. At least that's what some phone record intel I found said.
We got into an awesome firefight with these guys. Dodging behind cars, 18 wheelers, hot dog carts, planters slowly picking these dudes apart. Once we would get their armor down it was fucking ON. We would rush them and just destroy them. Also these dudes had incendiary grenades so we were under constant threat of napalm. After no bullshit, about 20 minutes of battling these guys (and damn near running out of ammo) we killed them all...and a BUNCH of loot dropped.
So here's when it gets tense. Now we are packed up with loot, and it is physically represented on your character. So other players in the DZ know you have loot. Now we are cautiously running the streets to an extraction zone. Every player we see could try to take us out, so we are moving with some space between us that way we can't both be ambushed together. We make it to the extraction zone and some guys come in and sneak in behind us. One throws down a turret, which doesn't shoot us unless he turns rogue and attacks us. It seems like he is going to do that. We hop the barricade and run to the other side of the extraction area, so we can keep an eye on these two. They keep maneuvering around us, and we assume they want to unload on us as soon as the chopper arrives to take our loot away.
Then a beautiful moment. The chopper is about 3 seconds away from arriving and we prepare to tether our loot to the cable it drops, and these guys come out and start making a move on us...and then 4 NPCs come out from behind and start blasting on these guys. One still tries to kill me, but he's being wrecked by the NPC's so I tether my shit really quick, and then other players are coming in to deposit loot as well. We all then wipe out the NPCs PLUS the guys that went rogue giving us lots of DZ bucks and a DZ rank.
So. Damn. Good.
