  • Putting Foot to Grass, Ass: FIFA 11 Thread

Started this bad boy up today, rechristened my virtual pro as Courage Wolf Zarate.

Shit is on once Sunday teevee is done.

Once again, the music is streets ahead. And on top of that, the graphics are even more polished and the speed of play is waaaaaay faster in pace.

Sex magic. This game has it.

Only you want to be housed by a drunken manchild.

      BOOSH

(gimme a few games with the goalie mode and I'll have a better answer for ya)

Hypnotized by the obvious choice of striker, I didn't even get a chance to try out the virtual pro keeper.

But I can tell you that defenders are much more vicious tackling assholes, passing has gotten easier (especially when you need to set up the finish), and challenging for the header in a corner kick is completely intuitive. My dude is 5' 10" and he still almost beat out this juiced up mullet fan for the header.

Streets ahead so far. I was glued to it until a few minutes ago, when I sighed at the stupid clock and saw it was "late as fuck."

Well... if the 'build a player' feature is still there, then I will fabricate a team comprised entirely of Craig T. Nelsons, and dominate the MLS...

Fired this up on Saturday with the bro (on the PS3.) Great stuff, but it's gonna take a while to get used to. I don't know about the rest of you series regulars, but it definitely feels "blockier" for want of a better word. Players move a little less freely than they did in 10 and I'd be lying if I said the tweaks in the power gauge didn't bother me massively at first. All it needs - in the words of Weathers - is a tap. What would've sent a perfectly weighted cross to the back stick last year, now sends them curling into row z.

                Excellent catch, mate!

                I mean save! Excellent save!

                  I blame the Brits...

All those times playing in the dirt with the Royal Marines and SAS.

Pronouncing 'El Zee' as 'El Zed'...

And seriously, who says "I need a brew" and means tea... NOT beer?

                    You'd fit in well here!

In three years of university, that never lost its strangeness to me either. We never even shorten "cuppa tea" to "cuppa", like they do in England. It's just a "cuppa tea."

I see what you mean about the pressure needed to execute the cross, but it just takes a little time to get into the swing of it and then you're bending it like no one's business.

I forgot to mention that dribbling has gotten much easier. I cut past defenders a few times last night with no problem. I like the blocky players apparently, because it felt awesome when I got into the penalty box because of Cee Wolf's skills.

Can't wait to give the keeper role a shot. Sounds interesting to say the least.

Yeah, I found it easier the more I played... and it is good that it doesn't just play exactly the same as last year's. I love that they're not wanting to rest on any laurels.

The curling's awesome; I just couldn't get the same enjoyment out of it in those first few games, because the crosses/passes/shots were usually overcooked.

Good call on the dribbling, by the way! Watching young Chrissy Brunt, be-garbed in Green and White, skipping down the left wing before cutting inside and blasting one in from the edge of the box is a glorious sight to behold.

Giving the "be a keeper" stuff a shot.

Futzing around in the arena was fun, even though Sagna of all fucking people popped three in the back of the net.

                          Then I got my bearings.

                          I shut his ass down.

Then I played against the Spurs. I shut them the fuck down too.

I'm gonna get greedy and take this shit to Chelsea's yard.

The one thing I'm still sort of disappointed in with regards to this new role is that the "secondary field view" option allows for a basic ushering of passing between the squad, but the options are a little more limited than I expected. A bit more waiting down on my half than I'd like, but it's a pretty cool addition to an already excellent experience.

                            Well...fuck virtual Frank Lamphard.

I kept from conceding a point for nearly 88 minutes, and then that bastard took the cross from Drogba and buried one into the corner of the net.

                            DAMN YOU ROBO FRANK

Being the keeper is hard as hell early on, especially since your reaction time is slow in the early goings. But as with the other Be A Pro mode, the more accomplishments, the greater the growth in the player. Even after I conceded the goal, and we still fucking won, I racked up a few of the required accomplishments.

I was actually terrified of Rooney last night when I used him as the default striker to practice against. But soon, I will make him rue the day he walked onto the pitch. Oh yes, I fucking will.

I'm starting to warm to this new mode.

I forgot to mention that this was my sad, depressing, newbie Arse fanboy way of being a revisionist after that 2:0 display this past weekend.
