  • CURKBERKS

I am a complete novice when it comes to anything that is not "throw on grill" or "fuck it, let's just make a bunch of bacon instead."

With that, and researching the whole ridiculous pageantry usually associated with this fellow, I have decided to run before I can crawl.

I picked up Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc at Home, and I will not rest until I craft some semblance of a decent library of recipes I'm confident in executing well.

Anyone have a kitchen bible of their own that they swear by? Feel free to pop them in here for the betterment of everyone and their tastebuds.

      The Joy Of Cooking.

I only own 2 cookbooks, and this is one of them. Comprehensive, easy to read, lots of diagrams.

      Buy it.

I should have swiped it on Mother's Day.

          Damn my scruples.

TJOC has gone through another printing. They have it at B&N and Borders. You can probably find it on Amazon as well.

Yeah, just get it used on Amazon. That's why I did for the slow cooker cook book I got.

I'll just pick it up at Borders down the road.

If it's still a Borders, that is.

Until then, Keller knows me well. The first recipe: fried chicken.

The store Williams-Sonoma has a ton of cookbooks in store that you can browse through. All of the celebrity chef stuff and a bunch of region-specific tomes.

That doesn't look like a link from our amazon box.

From what I understand from people who actually COOK (which is not me), the two top classic cookbooks to have are "Joy of Cooking" and Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". Everyone in my family who is a fabulous cook relies on both of those.
