As much as I like Zosia Mamet...just fuck this show to bits.
Sure, it's a loaded show that is daring you to hate it. It's just this giant pile of all the things that's wrong with younger people, women, the coastal American experience and just the general sense of malaise that's come to mark this country in the last decade.
I want to spend the next few days just screaming at this show. I want to scream at its most annoying apologists. Is it because the show is that bad? No, it's bad but it's not the worse. It's the straw that broke the camel's back. A lot of sites including the fucking AV Club want to try to address the imaginary symptoms and not the root cause.
"Girls" inspires the hate because it was that one little salmon that managed to swim upstream and shit on your shoe. It's not the first show to annoy you and it won't be the last. But, it was that one installment that arrived into a crowded marketplace and started screaming in your ear ME TOO! ME TOO!
The concept of a greatest generation is bullshit, but we shouldn't be in a race to see who can hit bottom in newer ways. If Lena Dunham is the voice of a generation, if "Girls" is showing us the new America....I welcome our Chinese Soviet Overlords.
