Finished Master of None just now. It definitely hits its stride a few episodes in. And fuck. The last like four episodes, as a single lonely dude in his 30s hit me like a ton of fucking bricks. But if I put anymore bourbon in my body i will explode.

Was over at my sister's place last weekend and watched a few episodes of a Hulu show called East Lost High. A bunch of hot Hispanic women and the shit they say is hilarious. Very melodramatic but I kind of liked it. Totally a guilty pleasure show.

Decided to give Empire a shot. I like it so far. I'll keep watching. Terrance Howard is fucked up.

I finished season two of American Horror Story (Asylum) last night. I was left with an overwhelming feeling of "Meh". It started out with so much promise; I wondered how they were going to fit that 20 lbs of shit in their one season 5 lb bag. Alien abductions, mad scientists, Frankenstein monster type experiments, a serial killer, sadistic and sexually repressed nuns (*Shudder*), demonic possession. . . Well, I figured it out. Let's just give every story hook an easy, anti-climactic, cop out ending. I found nothing at all satisfying about the end of this show. Say what you will about Season One, the Haunted House, but I kind of liked the way that one ended. Despite its "happy ending" trappings. I honestly didn't see that ending coming. So much better than Season Two. I suppose I'll return to Coven next (my wife and I started watching this when it aired, but she pussed out, repulsed by the violence, by ep. 3 and I haven't seen it since).

AHS is super hit and miss within each season. Lots of promise and then the storylines you think will pay off nicely go nowhere. Coven was pretty good. Freak Show was really good while the Clown was around. Hotel has been interesting but it fell apart this week with the big reveal which, I think, undermines a lot of the interesting stuff that has happened so far this year.

Flesh and Bone. Ballet mixed with soft core porn with a little bit of story mixed in. Sometimes it's really good; mostly it's like a car wreck, you don't want to watch, but you can't look away. But I could do without the female lead crying every four and a half minutes. Grow a pair, princess!

The Knick, a Cinemax original series about a hospital in NYC at the beginning of the 20th century. Barbaric medical practices, class warfare, filth, disease and poverty, drugs, whores, racism, the backwardness of the Catholic religion, rat stomping for fun and profit. . . it's got it all. Clive Owen is terrific as the coked out but manically brilliant head of surgery. One thing I noticed, and I'm not sure how I feel about it, is the score. It's very modern and synth-driven. There is no "traditional" instrumental music at all. It's very incongruous when placed into the time frame of the show.
