So, the new shows are premiering this week. Last night I watched:
'The Event': It was OK, I guess. The flashback format is clunky, the acting quality is inconsistent, and the special effects are iffy, but the overall premise is intriguing enough to get me to come back for a few more episodes. I can see this gelling into something worth watching once the story gets going.
'Hawaii 5-0': I almost gave up on it after 20 minutes. The dialog was really, really awful: full of exposition along the lines of
I'M A COP ON THE EDGE WHO JUST LOST HIS FATHER SO DON'T MESS WITH ME.
OH YEAH? WELL I"M A DIVORCED FATHER WHO MOVED OUT HERE TO BE CLOSE TO HIS DAUGHTER SO DON'T MESS WITH ME.
Like I said, really bad. After about 20 minutes, it started to gel. It helped that the actors playing McGarrett and Danno have genuine chemistry together. If they can concentrate on that and improve the writing, this could be a real winner.
Anyone else?
