Project Runway: Season...who cares

Yeah, Christian Siriano probably is doing the best out of all the Project Runway winners. As for designers over all, I'd say he and Austin Scarlett (who came in fourth on season one) are probably about even, career-wise. Christian's probably doing a little better than Austin, but they both wound up with fabulous careers after the show.

Actually, I would say Chloe Dao has been doing the best. In addition to her Houston location, she just opened a boutique in NYC (Times Square area, if I recall). She hasn't been courting all the high fashion/celebrity but she's definitely making a name for herself (even has a QVC show).

You think so? I haven't heard squat about her since she won. Also, I forgot, Emmett McCarthy also has a boutique in SoHo.

So...what's your opinion of the season premiere?

Pros:
- I liked the 90 minute format. Things weren't as rushed as before, and we got to see more 'personality' moments.
- I liked the fact that they were given a competition right away...Day 1, here you go, you've got 5 hours to whip something out. That was hardcore.
- Some of the personalities are actually appealing this time: Gretchen, who won, seems to be exceedingly likeable.

Cons:
- I'm sorry, but McKell didn't have the worst outfit. She didn't deserve to go, especially when mutant boy Casanova got to stay. Jason''s, Casanova's, and several others were much MUCH worse.
- How in the fuck did Casanova make the cut? He's hard to fucking look at (he looks 1 generation removed from being an ape with that face of his) and his taste is horrid.
- The FLAMING GAY factor is really high this season. I'm pretty sure that every prior season has had at least 1 (or 2) straight guys to balance out the male mix, but I'm seeing none of that this season. It's like they're all in competition to be the most fabulous, and I can see that being a problem for some of the male viewers who enjoy the show.

some of them really, really are. You've got a gay designer named Casanova and another one named Mondo. There's a Hawaiian guy (who had one of the best outfits last night) who is one step away from being a full-on drag queen. Seriously, the FABULOUS factor is a little high this season. The good news is that there seems to be some genuine talent possibilities amongst this crew.

I'll have to see it on Hulu to judge. But I don't doubt what you're saying, Matt. That shit can really grating, cute, but also grating.

Granted anyone called Cassanova already gets pegged as a D-Bag in my view.

Absolutely, spot-on, 100% this - I agree with you on every single point, except the last one. The douchebag with the bowler hat who sent his model down the runway in a backwards bathrobe that was falling off of her is straight. He's one of those "I LOVE CHICKS AND I'M STRAIGHT, BUT I LOVE FASHION, I ASSURE YOU I'M NOT GAY, HEY, I PROBABLY LOVE FASHION SO MUCH BECAUSE IT FORCES ME TO BE AROUND HOT MODELS - 'COS I'M STRAIGHT!" guys.

Oh, and it turns out that "Mongo" is from my section of Queens. I've never seen him on the subway or anything, because I know he generally rides in and out of town on a bull. (Come on - I defy you to tell me that the minute you saw Casanova that you didn't dance across your living room singing "Candygram for Mongo!")

that fucker was an uber tool. I looked at my wife last night and told her that, if he didn't go home off of that ridiculous dress, the show was fucking rigged. His model was smoking hot, though...GREAT rack.

Although I do have to say, it was hilarious to watch A.J. flip his shit when Casanova asked him one simple question. Because, granted, it was only his first question, so we didn't know at that time that Casanova was going to be an "advice mooch" with Gretchen. I was like, "Woah, A.J., take some Thorazine, dude."
