  • Reamed in the face: An inept manchild and his quest for a new videocard

So...bought a new video card. Didn't do what I should have done (get someone else to install the thing while I drink and kill things on GTA IV), and instead installed it by my defiant, ignorant self.

Needless to say, I didn't have the power supply to make the fuckfaced thing work (needed 450 Naomi Watts when I only had 300W to give).

Now, I am without a sexy beast of a working porn cruiser, or PC for everyone out there in PodCaust Land. I R SAD PANDA.

What in the name of Paul Verhoeven's wooden clogs should I do about this here situation? Order and install a new power supply, or just take the thing out into a field and Office Space the hell out of it?

Captain Failure needs your help! (Laugh as needed. Advise if possible.)

it depends on whether your cpu fan is a fucking beast like mine and it's a bitch to install a new power source... like mine. that's my scenario at the moment. either get new power sources and use my actual computers, or be lazy and just use my eee pc to post shit and surf. i chose the latter.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what I am doing in the interim.

pshaw...power supply is easy to install, so long as your computer isn't 10 years old...

        You rocking the PCI McMeat?

power supplies are easy to install. it's just that if you have a monster fan on your cpu, it becomes a bitch to bypass. unless you take off the fan... which ends up being extra four steps: take off the fan, clean the cpu top, re-apply thermal paste, and then put back the fan. that is after you put in the power supply. that's too much work!

                PCI express, meng.

UPDATE: I ordered a compatible 550W PSU that should be here by Wednesday. I hate being a technophobe when it comes to actually opening the chassis.

Honestly, take a picture of everything before you do anything, just in case.

                  That's what I do.

Then just go about piece by piece.

HAha. It pays to know IT people. But really, just pop your puter on a sturdy surface. Make a mental note of what you unplugged. Take old powersupply, put new one in. Turn on. If it doesnt' work, take out one piece at a time to test. Just don't do it while wet, in a lightningstorm, next to a tesla coil and you'll be fine.

So hosting a Slip n' Slide party is ill-advised? How else am I supposed to get Polanski to come back to the states? First person to mention Miley Cyrus gets candy and 5 to 10.
