I'm a fan of avsforums. That's how I made my decision.
aye. that's how i decided on mine as well. and i still love my tv. although... since i've upgraded from an sd 27" to an hd 52", i'm starting to think i could have gone a little bigger. maybe 62". hahaha.
At that point, invest in a killer projector. While I know you'll end up paying for bulbs, at least you could scale it to your living area. Once we get a house, it's projector all the way.

Here are my thoughts #1 if you are having a tough time deciding than yes take your time, getting any type of electronics can be difficult becasue they change all the time #2 A tv people tend to look away from because costco and wallmart carries them is VIZIO. Now before any single person in here says epic fail, I have installed 8 of these ranging from 20" up to a 52" LCD and honestly for the price they are a great lowbudget LCD. and for the price, 99% of the time you get more video/audio inputs and cables than any other LCD that are more expensive. CJ check out this website http://www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=62 and check out the sizes, i know you said $999.99 but for $1099.99 you can get a 42" LCD @1080p

I would also agree on Vizio, I've been looking at a 32" for the bedroom.

my coworker got a vizio i think... and it sounds that she and her fiance are happy with it. if you're not too crazy about the stats of a tv and you're happy with how it looks, not what it "could" possibly do, go with corey's advice. one thing i would suggest, is before you buy it, ask to test it at the store to see if there's any issues with the tv itself, eg banding, dead pixels, ghosting, what nots, so that you don't have to haul it back and forth from the store and home if there are any problems.
all retail stores should allow you to do so. best buy and target should at least. i don't know about walmart... but just ask. better for you to know what you're walking out of the store with than not.
