Used to be good old fashioned forums where you could always get good advice. Now it all lives behind Discord groups you don't even know exist. Honestly, the Brad and Will Made a Tech Pod patreon is worth the $1 tier just for access to their amazing tech info.

Bought some new fans and shit for my old gaming lappy. Opened her up for the first time in 6 years. I was expecting cobweb city. Barely any dust for the most part. Replaced the GPU/CPU fans, got shit cleaned up, put back together and then did a fresh install with all drives wiped back to day 1 shit. Not bad. A tad annoyed that I bought a new computer because I thought this one was dead, but glad I now have two working machines that I can now split for different functions. Felt good getting this old lappy back in operational shape.

Been getting this particular machine in fighting shape as my new music producing machine hooked into my synths and keyboards and shit. Was able to get Audition 3 re-installed which means PODCASTS are back on the menu again....so long as this doesn't die in 30 days due to authentication. Adobe shut down the auth servers for this program like 2 years ago. The old serial/crack I had wasn't working but thanks to some forum searching I found a new serial and my old crack seems to have worked with it. fingers crossed. . For whatever reason the new versions of Audution/Windows are a bitch in regards to recording both stereo mix from internal card AND external usb audio interface and I'm an asshole who hates having 3 people talking on one fucking channel. One of the main reasons we haven't been casting is due to my old machine dying which had Audition 3. Spent at least 2 months trying to get the new version of Audition working with my set up to no avail. Tried external websites that you can pay for in regards to podcasting which split up everyone's audio into separate audio files but I didn't like the idea of some external site having access to my shit like that.

Soooo in theory, the casts may be coming back. I'm still just afraid that my situation is going to bleed into the casts too much thus making them morose but we shall see.

At the very least I can now record all of my music shit properly and it's pretty sweet.

Also ended up finally getting rid of a swollen lappy battery in my old work laptop that I never sent back. I'd use it for my therapy sessions and for the last 2 years the keyboard was bulging but I didn't have the appropriate tool to unscrew the goddamn casing. I had to order a new computer tool set for my recent lappy fix so I was able to get that battery out and take it to a recycling center. Was going to drop 100 bucks on a new battery for the dell but realized I never use it when it's not plugged in so eff it.

Then I found some old hard drives I've been hoarding but was unable to access for a variety of reasons and hacked together an enclosure for the ssd ones I had and the big ole platter ones and found a TON of old shit. Ripped that all onto an external ssd, nuked them, got rid of them.

Feels good. Now to tackle my old desktop and get the data off those drives and get rid of the fucker. I'm sick of keeping these fucking machines in the closet and shit and never doing anything with them. None of them are worth a damn to upgrade so they just get dragged to whatever place we move to. Time to clean house and hopefully find some gold.

Oh man, today was the day I opened this laptop I still owe a grand on to attempt to install this new SSD. It was a pain in the ass at first and trying to find proper info on what I needed was hard but I did it, it posted, I now have 3 tb of storage in this, and it seems to be running smooth as butter. yay.

Ceej finally bought a new PC after 10+ years. Dude was rocking a machine from 2008 that was decent in 2006. So it's a whole new world for him right now.

"What about this apple monitor I have.."

I'm just wondering how Ceej is going to deal with the fact that, with his brand spankin' new computer, he'll never have to hear this again.

                    • My new desktop rig is a fucking beast. A BEAST. And it's pretty...oh so pretty. Microcenter is the shit and I forgot how much I missed having a desktop that can fucking RENDER AN ENTIRE BLENDER FILE IN MINUTES instead of hours now. Time to get back into the swing of things.

                      • the little bro and I hit up Microcenter yesterday for his 25th bday. He walked out with a new computer. Pre-covid/diagnosis/me realizing I'm a tad unhinged I was planning on taking him to Vegas on his 21st. Unfortunately the universe had different plans, turned an already disgusting place into a place that is just as disgusting but now I can't even smoke except in special smoking areas (wtf Vegas, that was always the best excuse to smoke for a few days) and after doing the math and realizing that it would cost more for just coach tickets and a not shitty hotel while also realizing 99% of that money would end up in liquor, nose candy, strippers, high class escorts, then food and gambling, it is no longer viable plus seems silly at the moment. PLUS like me, dude gets a computer and drives it into the ground. His intern sent me a pc partpicker thing of parts and half were refurbished and not complete and then trying to make sure it would all fit in his current right made my head hurt. Too much happening.

Every 5-6 years I get a new machine if possible. As I don't game solely on this thing and use it more editing/production, this last go around was my prebuilt that I made sure that I can update if need be but the only thing I cared about is my performance plan that allows me to get everything fixed/new/better for up to 3 years it was a no brainer. Building by piece is dumb at this point. The time taking to find the best deals, get shit that works (not needing to worry about have to RMA anything or accidentally fucking shit up) then putting shit together is no longer worth it on my end.

As a former 25 year old (which was prior to Lesley) I had to piece together a machines that were hand me down parts or the "most affordable" at the time I could afford which was nothing, I all ever wished for was that my good friend who had loot and never worried about having loot due to being a looty person plus an insane PC gamer was that for my bday I'd get a SATA drive at the time that was 100 bucks (which was food for the month on top of rent) that I could just not afford and that's when games weren't even close as ridiculous as they are now. BF2 was the big shooter at the time and I could play it but on low settings and what not. Had someone came to me and it ended up and said, hey, if you can put up 700, I'll put up 1200 and we'll get your shit working.

Well I did that for him yesterday. Gotta keep it a secret from his GF that I paid for it all and that he didn't pay any because she wants a 4k engagement ring or some shit. I hope it's worth it but as I didn't see or hear from him but saw him playing COD all night, I think it did. Felt good man....If I could have covered the whole thing it would have felt even better but I went in with a price point in my head I was willing to drop (1k), and ended up doing 200 more just to get that extra 2 year coverage so we both can basically get our shit updated around the same time in 2.5 years.

This is a big deal on my end because A: money is tight B: middle of a move C: stupid life being stupid but all I wanted was to make the kid happy. One of my best memories was taking him to Toys R' US and saying "go buck wild my man" and just picking up a shit load of hot wheels he wanted. Felt good, he was happy, and then we had toys to play together with. Now it's the same thing, plus he can now sell his old machine and use that money towards the ring and so long as he keeps his story straight, I bought it all, he did nothing but be happy, and no one is the wiser.
