In Praise of Cold-Eze

I awoke at 3 AM on Friday, April 30 to the familiar dry scratchiness that precedes a cold. "Oh no!" I think. "I CAN'T get a cold now! Cigarfest is tomorrow!"

I immediately leapt out of bed (scared the shit out of the sleeping dog) and grabbed a Cold-Eze lozenge from the bag I keep handy for such emergencies. The deal with these, if you haven't heard, is that if you start taking them at the 2st sign of a cold, they reduce the duration & severity of the common cold. I SWEAR by these things.

I continued to take them throughout the day on Friday, and took a couple in the morning on Saturday (the fest didn't start until the afternoon), and the upshot is rather than coughing all over the damn place & being unable to smoke cigars (or at least, being unable to enjoy them due to either a coogh or a taste-impairing congestion of the sinuses), I was almost completely clear, completely cough-free, and able to enjoy 3 - count 'em, 3 - smokes at the fest.

This shit always works at least a little bit for me, but this is the best it's ever done (presumably because I got to this cold earleir than any of the others). I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Cold-eze aren't too bad, but I recommend goin' to a World Market and getting Lemsip.

It is the Rambo of cold remedies.

The Cold-Eze are good, but for me, the best stuff is Echinacea tea. You can get Echinacea in drops or capsules, but the tea works best. I guess it's the combo of the steam and the herb, but it just knocks any cold or bug right out of my system. It's freaky, because it has no taste, so I normally just brew it with a regular teabag of something else that tastes good.

Cold-Eze are zinc lozenges. And Hocken's right, they taste awful. But what medicine that worked well didn't?
