And I agree, the cat doesn't become two different cats, just one that's dead and one that's alive. The only one that could know is the outside observer.
Fuck Tegmark. I'm calling him a quack. The entire theory is flawed. The outside observer is no different than the participant or the perp. It all relates to perspective. Perspective doesn't determine the start or stop of any lifeline.

But say if you die in your sleep? How do you know you've died?

Definite cognition doesn't determine death. The end of basic life-supporting functions determines death. When the lungs don't inflate, the brain doesn't fire off electrical sparks and the heart doesn't pump....you're dead.
Using Schrodinger's Cat, you can say that people who die but are resuscitated back to life...they count as two people. It was an interesting theory back in the 1930s, but it doesn't hold weight today.

Also, don't use the reductio ad absurdum argument to get out of it. The man was a legit scientist who proposed this theory. He never followed up and no one ever tried to take it apart.
It's time to kill the Kitty.

If anything it'd be cool to see this whole concept die so that nerds can't wear those irritating fucking shirts.
