I remember in 5th grade the teachers separating us (the boys and girls whose parents signed forms of consent) into two groups to go and view our gender specific educational films (on projectors) on opposing sides of the library. We could hear the girls laugh from time to time. Which was weird because the film we watched wasn't funny at all. Not even unintentionally. I still wonder what they were laughing at.

I went to a Christian school and we had sex ed in 7th grade. I only remember this because we had a morbidly obese, extremely unattractive teacher's assistant who took over the responsibility from our more conservative Science teacher and led off the "safe sex" lesson by unfurling a condom 1/3rd of the way and saying "Well, most of you will only use this much. But my husband...*unfurls the condom all the way*" Needless to say, that didn't go over very well and administration axed her a few months afterward.
The hilarious part was that her son was in the same class as mine when she did it. The expression on his face was pretty much "God I wish I could shoot myself right now.""Here, young man, your hormones are raging. Let's go in this bedroom, and we'll engage in some homosexual acts. You'll find you like it." - Rep. Ken Peterson, R-Billings
"You're born alone and you die alone and this world just drops a bunch of rules on top of you to make you forget those facts. But I never forget. I'm living like there's no tomorrow, because there isn't one." - Don Draper

As did I!
Favorite decade? I don't know, honestly, I've still been trying to think it out. I'd said before that I can narrow it down to the 70s/80s/90s for me, so here goes:
I love that "NY during the 70s" feel, and that was the age I was when I decided I'd move here as soon as I was old enough. I made that decision at age 12, and stuck with it, although I didn't get here till I was 25. The grittiness that NY had back in the 70s just fascinated me, and my Dad used to bring me here all the time to see the ballet, go to shows, etc. When I stand at Lincoln Center, waiting to cross the street, even though everything across the way is gone now, it still feels like 1976 to me.
Had a lot of fun during the "little suburban punk" phase I went through in the 80s. Blue streaks in my hair, Ramones tee shirts, fake leather pants, and 105 lbs to carry it all off (waaaay too thin, but then again, I was 20). I was pretty straightlaced, actually, and my parents were smart enough to know it, so I got very little grief from my family. I looked like trouble, but I wasn't trouble, and therein lies the difference that kept my folks off my back while I was in college. Looking like trouble was reward enough for me. Loved all the new wave and punk rock that the 80s had to offer, and indulged in it as much as I could.
The 90s - to be honest, I loved the hell out of the 90s. Even though I was about 30 or 31, I got very much into alternative music, and that remains some of my favorite stuff to this day. I had been in NY since 1989, and was finally making enough that I could move into my own big-girl apartment by myself without a roommate. Still had an ass I could bounce a quarter off of back then, and was two dress sizes smaller than I am now! It may have been a little late, but I really felt, at that time, like I was coming into my own. My own place, my own money, still working out and looking not too shabby in my early 30s, still knew who the new bands were, did my share of dating. It was a really happy time for me. 1994 through 1997 were probably some of the happiest years of my life.Last edited by Lisa; 02-05-2010, 03:03 PM.2012 Avatar Theme - LADIES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF HOLLYWOOD. Lisa back in her 80's heyday:
I gotta agree - the 90s were probably my favorite decade. Late 80's weren't too bad as my time at Monmouth College beat the ever lovin' shit out of high school for me. The music was gearing up for something new (college radio aced the regular FM stuff - early REM was cooking, plus we got bands like The Rplacements, Sebadoh, Husker Du, Blake Babies, Lemonheads, TMBG, etc. etc.), hard rock and metal were coming back in a big way, and I was FINALLY dating (I was dateless in high school).
90's had their share of ups and downs, but things were falling into place.

Somehow...I find it hard to believe that a sweetheart like Lisa EVER had to shoot at the walls of heartache.

Also have it on good authority that she blasts Vixen's "Edge of a Broken Heart" in her apartment, throws on her jammies with the feet in them, and bounces up and down on her bed, lip-synching into her hairbrush. On Tuesdays, it's Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman."
Once Rob gets the bribe money, and we get the video feed set up, I'll let you know what songs Lesley bounces up and down on the bed to.
In all fairness, Iggy does a killer Lemmy when the wife's not looking (even cranks his neck up to emulate Lemmy singing into his mike. His take on "Orgasmatron" is awe-inspiring). Matt and I do the same, only with Rush (I'm still on "Subdivisions" off the Signals album, Matt's moved on to "Mystic Rhythms" off of Power Windows, but I'll catch up.).
Howard and Ed are kind of difficult to get a bead on (my live feed went tits up during the storm). I do know, however, that Howard was channeling some Ziggy Stardust era Bowie for a bit there (ask him to do "Heroes." Go ahead, he loves it!).
The rest of you I'll figure out eventually. I am new here after all.

That barbarian goddess is Lisa. The heroine of ZZ Top's "Legs" video? Lisa. (Incidentally, I can't tell you how many times I was praying for the Eliminator to pull up while I was working at Great Adventure, with the girls popping out of the car and taking me away to be their personal love monkey. I think I'd have made a good love monkey.)We are so accustomed to disguise ourselves to others that in the end we become disguised to ourselves.
