Hmmm... to be perfectly honest, I have to give this some thought. It's going to be a mix of the 70s/80s/90s, all for different reasons. I'll think it out and be back later.

I love Mel Gibson. I would vote for him, if he ran for President or Chancellor.

Still love the Motorhead jacket, Ig!

I liked the latter half of the 80's more, and had a blast in the 90s. Mostly for the reasons Iggy and Matt mentioned, but when I hit the early 90s, the music was cookin' (grunge and alternative ruled the radio and fucked up glam rock and power ballads, and the DIY vibe was all over the place), the fashion excess from the 80's (pastel color clothes? Really?) was finished, and people dressed a bit more normally. I was easy to spot - black jeans, Rush, Social Distortion, Siouxsie, Caterwaul, Soundgarden, or Motorhead t-shirt, leather jacket, Doc Martens (which I still have and still fit like a glove). Throw in a goatee, bald head, and my ginormous height, and people cut me a wide berth.

Things started to calm down a bit, too. We wrapped up 12 years of Reagan and Bush, and got Clinton instead. Everyone seemed more optimistic.

I was getting my life and career on track, and I also started dating my wife in the last half of the 90s, so for that alone, the 90s ruled.

This thread is gonna be kind of like the Hannukah Song, in that there will be new lists of things to love from my favorite decade every so often. Some more for now:

Scarface. The Breakfast Club. 16 Candles. Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The wrath of KHAAAAAAAAN!!!

                          HIll Street Blues. Cheers.

Reeboks. Not only a fashion statement & status symbol, but the most comfortable, functional athletic shoes ever. And they came in black, so you could kind of half assedly rock a slightly more dressy style.

Playmates Ava Fabian & Lesa Ann Pedriana. Best examples of the Big Hair ever, IMO.

Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars. The Dark Knight Returns. Watch. Men.

Bruce Springsteen releases "Born in the USA".

The Rolling Stones, still together & rockin' it old school.

The Smiths & REM putting alternative on the map.

Metallica releases "Master of Puppets", quite possibly the best heavy metal album of all time.

                          The Lost Boys. Ghostbusters.

For the first couple years, when I was still young enough to enjoy them, Star Wars action figures and accessories, including a free Boba Fett, and later a survival pack (remember, with the Hoth backpack, the 'Falcon's breathing masks, Yoda carry harness, spare guns, etc?) w/ 4 proofs of purchase thru the mail.
I like the way the line runs up the back of the stocking.

I fucking love that. Especially since she's talking about THE FUCKIN 90's. What a dumb cunt.

Who is the real Caressa Cameron? Winner of this past weekend's 2010 Miss America pageant, this 22-year-old Virginia native was, at one point, one of us (Exhibit A: high school yearbook photo circa 2002; pictured left). But, somehow, through some unfortunate series of events, she changed -- she became an outsider (Exhibit B: Miss America; pictured right).

Newly crowned, Cameron took to the pulpit spewing her outdoorsy blasphemy onto an unsuspecting audience, disturbed from their relaxed seated positions within a temperature-controlled climate. She shouted, "take away the video games, set some standards for our children!" and construed a preposterous account of the mid-90s when kids were "playing imaginary games with sticks in the street like I did when I was little."

Lies! Admit it, Cameron. You were playing PlayStation. And when you weren't doing that, you were playing Nintendo 64! And when you weren't doing that, you were probably begging daddy to get you a Sega Saturn (perhaps his heartless "No!" signaled the beginning of your innocent forays out of the den?).

Poor child, what ill-gotten desire led you from the indoors? Alas, Cameron may be lost to us, but she has unwittingly strengthened our numbers by providing us with an addictive new game concept sure to keep kids inside for years to come:

Joystiq Publishing is pleased to announce the multiplatform game on the year, Stick to the Streetz, for Nintendo Wii, Sony Playstation 3 PlayStation Motion Controller, and Microsoft Xbox 360 Project Natal. Grab your "stick" and wave it in 1:1 real-time, motion-capture accuracy as you imagine a brilliant game perfectly recreated in your living room television display. Take that Miss America!

Fantastic fucking list, but is there something wrong with me that when I saw the word "Playmates" the first thing to pop into my head was Ninja Turtles?
