Geek things you don't get

this movie casts homosexuality in a rather dismal light.

This movie also has Nixon being president for a huge stretch of time, it's an alternate time line and things are totally different in that world compared to ours. Plus it's 1980 something in that world as opposed to 20+ years later. I don't think the movie is consciously saying gay/lesbians are bad now. Just that society thought so in that time plus amping it up to match the world depicted.

Not the subtext I read in the film. Taking prior knowledge of the book out of the equation, from the film in a world that accepts homosexuality=a world that is morally bankrupt. Top it off that one of the most morally bankrupt characters is gay.

I'm not gay so I can't look at it from your perspective but I feel like you want the movie to say that when I'm not sure it does. If it does and was intended to then the director should be taken to task, but I'm not convinced it does.

Sure it may be a stretch but let's take what the film implies (and what we know). This is an alternative timeline. What's different about it? They show us pivotal/iconic historic scenes. "Look it's the famous scene where a male soldier is kissing a nurse only this time it's 2 girls kissing. I guess homosexuality is alright there." Flash forward to modern times (in the film) to a world that is morally bankrupt. Ouch.

Hmm, maybe. I remember Matthew Goode remarking about that file and cracking up about it. Hell, the man was partying with Ziggy Stardust at 54. Who knows what was going on.

also does boys really imply pedo? I could have a folder (not that I do) that says girls and it's filled with porn but it's not underage girls. I guess I could have named it Women, but that it's neither here nor there. I figured it just was there to show he may or may not be gay. Not that he may or may not be a pedo. But that's just me.

I took it for pedophilia. Homosexuality is a sexual attraction for members of the same sex. Pedophilia is specifically an attraction for very young boys or girls. There is a distinct difference between the two, although most pedophiles try and group themselves with homosexuals in order to try and find acceptance.

Just cause the phrase "Boys" was used. Does not instantly mean it was children. There are gay areas called "Boystown", doesn't mean it's loaded with kids or a film with Spencer Tracey.

Fair enough. You're probably right, as he probably went the gay way when he modeled his life after Alexander the Great.

Alan Moore's got a fuckload of issues. Homophobia isn't one of them.

This may be one of the reasons why it struck me so hard as his portrayal of homosexuals in V for Vendetta was well-crafted (and I know he has a good relationship with the gay community).

I haven't read Scott Pilgrim. Seen it but the book didn't look appealing to me. Should I try to read before the movie comes out?

It's not bad. I dug it up until the latest book. It hits pretty close to home for me. But the movie and books will be different according to Edgar and Bryan.
