Indianapolis police say a 77-year-old woman died as she was trying to break up a sword fight between her grandson and brother-in-law.
Police have arrested the grandson, 39-year-old Chris Rondeau, on a preliminary attempted murder charge in the death of 77-year-old Franziska Stegbauer at a home on the city's northwest side early Thursday.
Sgt. Matthew Mount said an autopsy would have to determine whether Stegbauer died from her stab wounds or a heart attack.
Rondeau was hospitalized after the attack as was 69-year-old Adolf Stegbauer. Rondeau was in stable condition, while Adolf Stegbauer was in surgery with serious injuries.
Officers found the three with stab wounds when they arrived at the home shortly after 1 a.m.
