  • I fully expect Mitch to squeak out a win here.

But, you're doing the opposition's work for them if you believe the Republicans aren't getting hammered on every possible front right now.

    • Oh, I'm festering for the Republicans to get what's coming to them. But I'm very cautious in my optimism.

Like Grave and Rerb, I live in a VERY Conservative/Red part of NJ (a dozen Trump 2020 flags on my way to work alone), and 2016 taught me anything can fucking happen. I'm doing my part and voting Biden, as is Jen, but I won't relax until Biden gets the nod, the Dems take both House and Senate, and Trump is officially out the door.

      • Unfortunately for us, our county is very Republican-oriented. A lot of the incumbent politicians, especially at the county level, are Republican and booting them out is extremely difficult.

My rule of thumb when I vote is to vote out the incumbent. Hasn't worked, but I keep trying.

I believe they're getting hammered to shit, but they've rig the game. It's like taking a hammer to the mole game, but the moles got rigged to never smash back into the hole. They just laugh at you, take away Roe v Wade, then have their pregnant mole mistress dumped in a river.

          • And it’s hard not to be discouraged when I drive down my street, just my street alone, and see 6 houses with Trump paraphernalia. But I hope for the best. And continue to hope that all those houses that don’t have the sign of satan are voting Biden.

Oh, it's super easy to get discourage on the colloquial level.

But, things on a national scale are in the Dems' favor. The closer we get to the end, the more apparent it will become even on a local level.

Also, I find it fascinating to hear how many people here live in Trump centric neighborhoods, etc.

I've seen maybe one McGrath sign and nothing around here for blocks.

Fascinating. I've actually been scatter plotting the responses I see from a wide sample of the various social media groups to the point that I can almost successfully peg their responses to a variety of issues.

Basically, this place makes a lot of sense now in hindsight.

If the DOJ takes this over, gets it removed to Fed Court, then sovereign immunity kicks in and the case goes away.

That's a lot of things having to happen in a short amount of time.

I generally think that you're right. In a normal environment, we'd be looking at a 2008 style wipeout. I read one commentator this morning saying this election feels like a 1980 realignment, which, again, feels right on some level since this will be first national election where the Millennials are voting in huge numbers.

The pandemic can fuck this all up though. As can Bill Barr.

Barr has way too much to fight through, especially with Durham falling apart.

The 1980 assessment is easily the closest model we're staring down right now.

Think I posted this elsewhere, but this is how New Jersey transitioned into an almost solid Blue state during our gubernatorial and Congressional elections - 2014, 2016, and 2018 in order.

Guess where I fucking live? Smack on the border of Ocean and Monmouth counties, the heart of the Red Zone.

It's also really weird how many of my classmates from when I was a kid went from left leaning to right. I mean, OK, life changes you, but God damn, y'know? A sizable chunk of folks in my state HATED Trump for what he did to Atlantic City (lost jobs, bankrupt casinos, etc.), but some of these schmucks still voted for him and would die for him even now. Fucking bizarre, man.

                              • You're not wrong. Downtown New Egypt has a Stephen King's Castle Rock/Derry/Salem's Lot feel to it in spots - you just KNOW there are secrets buried here and there - and it seems to be strong with the Trump. It cuts along both the blue collar and white collar areas, too. The ritizier houses owned by the horse and large crop farmers, the ramshackle houses, the churches across the street from each other - many rocking "Trump 2020" and US flags, the occasional "Don't Tread On Me" flag, lots of Thin Blue Line flags as well.

It's a right leaning wet dream. Further north you get, once you pass Jackson, it gets a bit more liberal. And don't get me started on the Shore. If you own property there and/or rock a nice boat, chances are you're going to lean right. Had a discussion with a friend I was doing freelance work for, and even after explaining to him how he was getting screwed by Trump's policies and how he was losing money as a result, the guy still hopes Trump wins. It's like being in an abusive relationship: "Sure he cheats on me and beats me and the kids, but he loves me, right? It's not his fault!" Logic and hard facts seldom work here. You can literally show them anything and everything to prove your point, and they still won't give up on Trump. Even if they admit he sucks, they stick by him more so as to save face.
