Something like that. Or, as common fodder, Tatum inked a "Pay or Play" deal on Gambit and Fox saw it wiser to put him in something else of theirs than simply pay his (expensive) fee for nothing. That's the only reason Jack the Giant Killer got made, for example.

And, that's what happened here.


Also that Ehrenreich kid from Hail Caesar snatching away Han Solo at the last minute is pretty stunning. Looking forward to what he does with it.

Ah, for Singer. I was wondering what actor it might have applied for. I don't see Hoult having that kind of power yet, so I was confused.

Singer was signed on to produce/direct the Superman Returns sequel for June 2009, and no matter what they had to pay the agreed upon fee (which was like, $15M).

So when that didn't happen (a whole 'nother story), they basically told him, "OK, which one of these projects do you want to make?" which included that Excalibur remake, this and something else that escapes me at the moment.
