  • Ides of March

Gosling continues his streak, but Clooney is starting to paint by numbers for direction.

It'll pick up acting and writing noms, but it's a stretch to see more than that.

        Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
        Hugo
        Tree of Life
        Young Adult
Melancholia (has a strong shot to be Triers' best breakthrough since Breaking the Waves)
        War Horse
The Help (scoff, but it's setting up ground as DW is already putting aside campaign money)

        Others such as:

        J. Edgar
        Ides of March
We Bought a Zoo are tracking good, but not in the major award brackets.

Nice to hear that We Bought a Zoo is tracking well. I'm a huge Cameron Crowe apologist but that trailer gave me the heebie jeebies.

                  Except for Elizabethtown.

I believe Russ, Howard, and I covered that.

It's a movie made by the performances (specifically Gosling and Hoffman) and not so much by the writing which I literally guessed the plot-points, and was proven correct, during the screening.

Also Giamatti's "The Democrats lost because we refused to get in the mud and play dirty with the elephants" line drew a huge laugh from my audience. Shouldn't be surprised by that smugness considering its directed by Clooney.

I'm infinitely more interested in the Wayans' re-imagining of this film:

                        St. Ides of March.

                        Also:
