I actually saw Drive at the Cineworld in Parrs Wood and the audience there are very respectful, most of the time. I wouldn't say they were receptive to it, but there weren't any little shits in there either.

I like the films the Cornerhouse shows though and the audience there aren't gonna make jokes during a film like this.

One of my favourite movie-going experiences ever was No Country for Old Men right when it came out at The Cornerhouse. It just felt like a world away from home. There's such a slim chance of getting a respectful audience for a film like that here. It's quite infuriating, really.

The crowd I had with this tonight scrunched its way through its belongings and popcorn with grating tedium. They coughed. They talked. They stretched and got up to go for a dander or probably go home because this didn't have enough "talking" for them. I don't mean to sound like a snob because, as I've said countless times before, I'm the guy who loves Robot Jox (without irony) and stuff like this in exactly the same way. But audiences like them make me appreciate just how great places like the Cornerhouse in Manchester are. They're absolutely invaluable for maximizing experiences like this film offers.

What kills me about that is the narrative for Drive is retard-easy to follow, the action/chase sequences are phenomenal all around (the editing, music, lighting, etc.) and the violence makes you jump out of your seat. It keeps your attention the entire two hours.

So. Fucking. What. That there wasn't tons of dialogue to feed to the audience.

I don't go to the big movie plex's anymore for that very reason. I'll go to the Alamo if I can get a sitter, wait for DVD if not.

@ The Bobby: Your No Country anecdote is similar to the audience I'd seen it with at the Magnolia. Enthused discussions littered the lobby when it was over, across ages and biases, as my friend and I wished we had more money for another viewing plus a bucket of beer.

Multiplexes are monuments to a cultural wasteland with fascistic architecture to match.

What kills me about that is the narrative.... keeps your attention the entire two hours.

I know, mate, but this is what it boils down to for these cats. Show 'em something like Drive and it gets the Soldier reaction:

"Yer man's a bit quiet, isn't he?"

Ugh.

I've already made this case to someone about the movie. It doesn't need to spell things out. We know everything we need to know with a refreshingly slim amount of chit-chat. It only strengthens the film. Alas, for some folks this will simply be memorable for a few "LOL" worthy moments of violence that woke them up either literally or figuratively.

That sounds fantastic, mate. I've seen several films at the Cornerhouse (from stuff like C.R.A.Z.Y. and The Science of Sleep to Clerks II) and, more often than not, it was wonderful. There's a little bookshop and a cafe/restaurant upstairs. It's very boho-chic, a little too much for some people, but the passion for film on display is intoxicating if you're like-minded.

It was ridiculous that he walked around in public covered in blood like that. For a guy that lives completely under the radar, that was out of character. Way to draw attention to yourself. May want to laumder your jacket ans wash the brain goo off of hour shoes, buddy.
