As a Superman traditionalist, I have to agree. There was a lot of crazy shit wrong with the Burton, Ratner and McG incarnations of Supes. But losing the red underwear wasn't one of them. Hence why they're using the Flyby design for the comic and movie reboot suit.

Brainiac's ship does look pretty slick, and it's something from the comics, and handled right opens up a whole punch of cool possibilities story-wise (what the fuck has a skull that huge you can use it for a spaceship? Will/can Superman fight it?).

I liked the red underwear as it breaks up the design a bit, giving a nice balance betwixt the blue and the red, without the blue overwhelming. Also, it's evocative of the time period when Superman was created - he looks like a weightlifter or circus strongman from back in the day (the open neck for his shirt lends to that, too). The yellow belt also serves to lighten the design a bit, whereas the new armor in the books looks a bit too dark now that it's just red and blue, "S" shield not withstanding.
