I've read Knightfall, but I'm not really up on Bane as a character beyond that. Is he really any more of a stretch into "non-Nolan" waters than Robin would be? Thematically, it seems like there are more interesting things to explore with the idea of a Robin than there are with a character who - as I remember him, anyway - was a largely one note goon.

Underwhelmed... I am.
