  • True Grit with Jeff Bridges

I did a search and found a "True Grit" thread in comics and literature.

Trailer's up and it looks great

Wasn't expecting a trailer for this yet. But, yep, looks solid.

This is probably my most anticipated film of the year remaining. Damon looks awesome. And Bridges, well, need I even say it?
I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane.

Really want to go see this ASAP, but again, gotta wait for my expense check. Hoping my dad will go see it with me as well, last movie he saw in a theater was 300, and before that Last Crusade.

Troy: has 'True Grit' got any sort of traction heading into the Oscars at all?

As someone who openly is bored by Westerns, this is one of the few I can't wait to see.

I will say this one last time.

Seeing Jeff Bridges as Cogburn makes me think we're watching future Jake.

It's picking up movement, but now it's looking like it'll be a huge nominee fest...but little actual win.

There has been debate over whether Bridges will go back to back, but he'll get nominated.

Honestly, I see another 2002 scenario for Best Actor. Firth and Bridges splits the vote and Franco or Eisenberg wins.

Liked it but didn't love it. I'm still processing why I didn't fall head over heels for it.

                              Of note:
                              - One of the single best looking films that I've ever seen. Glorious cinematography.
                              - Great acting across the board, especially from Hailee Steinfeld (sp?). She deserves a best ACTRESS nomination, but she'll probably have to settle for best SUPPORTING actress. That's ridiculous, as she's in every scene in the film.

I think that my issue with the film has to do with the pacing and the action, or lack thereof. I don't mind slow movies, especially if the story being told is a good one (and this IS a good one), but it felt a little too deliberately slow in places. Also, I really think that it needed at least one more action set piece. They were in Indian territory, so they really should have had some sort of Indian confrontation or attack to deal with. I never got the sense of dread or foreboding from the setting that I feel would have elevated the DANGER DANGER element of the film.

My 2 cents. It's definitely a winner and worth seeing in the theater, especially for the cinematography.
