yeah. This mentality is silly. I used to have it, but I realized that no reboot will ever take away from the original. I'll still get upset when they are completely botched (NOES) as being a fan of said property it would have been awesome to get some new stories, but I take solace in the fact I have 3 other good NOES movies to watch whenever I want.

This looks pretty interesting. I really like Jeffrey Dean Morgan (and so does Lesley) so this will probably be a theater flick for us.

Seriously don't get this mentality. At all. Do you not read comics? They reboot every fucking week. If the movie is decent, who gives a shit?

Hence the main problem with comics: storytelling-wise, most of them are garbage because of that (the ones that are doing jsut that). The mythology is infinite, hence without impact. Imagine for a second if all the old myths of mankind were like the comics? If Hamlet was rebooted again and again? So story-wise, comics are ultimately without consequences, and thus, in the end without merits. And I like comics, but if you kill a character and keep reviving him, what's the point? Hence why I mostly dropped collecting them. At least the majorones

I mean, it's one thing to do a movie reboot, as you can re-tell a story better after a long time to refresh it, but here it's Hollywood Creative Failure at it's best/worse. Not only it is rebooting out of lack of imagination, it's playing even safer by rebooting a pretty fresh franchise. And it's only to make money cause they know Spider-Man is a money making franchise.

It's about milking the art as much as they can to make money, usually at the expense of storytelling and quality. I can cite exemple like american TV series that are stretch over their welcome until they're either cancelled or out of creative juice (House, CSI, etc...). Having a clear end (usually) help the creation of a lasting cohesive story that have a defined ending (exception: Lost. they never knew what they were doing).

Sure, it's a business, but still, how come the British are so great at doing series that are short and concise? Exception: Doctor fucking Who.

THIS. Took me awhile to come to this conclusion, but very much this. Whether the new flick tanks or does tremendous business, I got my Raimi flicks to keep me happy regardless. Again, I will see the new film and make my own judgement, I'm just not sure if I'll see it in the theater.

Very valid point, too. I get that the studios are in the business to make money, and I get that franchises like Spider-Man do that, but they could just as easily continued the Raimi storyline without rebooting, whether Raimi was attached or not. I mean, they don't always reboot James Bond when they change actors, Daniel Craig excluded of course.

That. And in that case, a reboot was kinda valid. Kinda. Le'Ts remake Star Wars. But now Luke Skywalker is a girl! And she'll sleep with Leia Cause it's EDGY!!!

I'd love it if Disney/Marvel got the rights to Spidey back, but even if this flick tanks, I doubt Sony would sell. They can always try again in a couple of years, and even if it does suck, it's still going to make Sony some pretty coin.

I suffer, all must suffer, Russ. I hope Disney negotiates some sort of deal with Sony akin to their deal with Paramount, or if Sony's fortunes continue to plummet, Disney someday buys Sony, thus getting the rights back from Spidey that way.

The shockwave this would generate in Japan would be something to experience.

I know they had been filming all that test footage, and talking about this forever...but no idea the Wachowskis actually filmed the damn thing. Let alone with all those names attached. Despite my hatred for the Matrix sequels I'm really interested in this.

I am still very much in Billy's camp re: The Amazing Spider-Man. Been looking forward to it and Prometheus more than any other flicks due to come out this year since the teaser trailer arrived at least. A massive part of that, of course, is the fact that he's my favourite superhero, but I also think the movie's been given such a raw deal basically every step of the way, based on what we've seen so far.

U.K. productions are heavily influenced by thriftiness. Like diggity. The BBC in particular are notoriously shrewd when it comes to splashing the cash, often recycling actors and sets to the point of hilarity (it's almost a running gag amongst fans of stuff like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Being Human, et al.) I also think there's a much greater importance placed on storytelling in British TV than there is across El Pondo.

By the way, I think you raise some fantastic points about remakes as well as the problem of comics' inherently cyclical nature. That kind of thing is a big part of why I've tried for a long time to be more discerning about what I read; there's just too much garbage out there to go around taking chances on comics all that often, especially when it's as overpriced as it is a lot of the time. Shame, that. Sometimes, I'm still tempted to just go around emptying the shelves into a big trolley if I'm comic-browsing, but I know the quality varies too greatly to justify such splurging.

That said, I would read the pants off this Crisis on Infinite Hamlets! you speak of.
