This on the other hand feel 100% calculating to play on our memories of 9/11. Fuck that and the assholes behind it.

You're calling it this, while giving the rest of her career a pass. It's a bad trailer based on an award-winning book with a capable director. That alone elevates over 98% of her work.

Even if it's a piece of shit, it's better by default than most of her work. She's Sandra Bullock not Kate Winslet.

But, that just flies in the face of the whole process. How can you like someone when the basis of your knowledge is their body of work?

It's not just her body of work, though. We've seen her be HER in interviews, award shows, etc. We've read stories about her. We've developed an overall impression of SANDRA BULLOCK, the PERSON, and that impression helps to trump some of the incredibly shitty work that she's done.

Also, she HAS been in some genuinely good films. That fact, along with a generally good opinion of her as a person, helps to counteract the OH GOD ANOTHER SHITTY FILM factor. At least, it does for me.

I also understand that a LOT of that public impression is deliberately orchestrated by herself and her management. We're buying into a product: Sandra Bullock, NICE person. I get that.
