Blade Runner, Children of Men, The Fountain. Moon.

They all assfuck Aliens, Avatar and The Matrix to the ground. And I love The Matrix.

'The Abyss' also was a really solid script, though.

        More so than Avatar.

And once again, I really fucking dug Avatar.

But what I don't get is why you feel D9 is only an honorable mention compared to Avatar. Avatar didn't seem real. It was too pretty. Like I said in the Avatar thread, it was still pretty when the ashes were falling. I just couldn't connect with those characters and that world.

But you can't compare the two movies. At least on the surface. One is set in the future where you can hook into giant blue aliens.

Another is set in Africa. Now.

Oh, but I can. Both movies are about relocating a species that don't want to relocated and have human characters that, over time, understand the overall picture.

Although I got choked up during both flicks. So something works on some level in both for me. But I'll always choose D9 over Avatar.

D9 has actual humans. Avatar seems to have caricatures.

No, 'Avatar' has archetypes. You know EXACTLY what role each cast member is there to perform within seconds.

*puts on blast shield*...so are we only talking his Sci-Fi? I would definitely say Titanic was probably his best, and ranks pretty high on the great movies list...

I'll agree with that, but this is sc-fi only.

I enjoy all of Cameron's movies to some extent, but his only great film, the only time tested, still stands up, doesn't feel aged, or have massive glaring holes in it....Terminator.
