Name me a smart big budget film (We're talking $100+ mill)that is not based off of a franchise or other property done in the past ten years?

And it isn't the second coming of christ, but this summer has been such crap, there really hasn't been any good movies. It's like coming to an oasis in the desert.

Still, if you haven't seen the movie why are you in the thread?

Sorry, but no movie has totally THRILLED me like this one has in a long, long time. This film was made with ME in mind (no pun intended) and I totally connected with it right from the start. Honestly, I want to see it again RIGHT NOW.

I wouldn't put it up there as the best film that I've ever seen (I wouldn't go THAT far, yet...it needs time to marinate in my brain) but it's definitely in the upper echelon.

People have been using spoiler tags. I've been interested in the emotional reaction to the film.

As far as movies costing more than 100 million that make you think....Wall-E, Up. Shall I go on or are the cartoon movies enough?

Emotional Reaction: Mine (and my wife's) was very strong. The film's emotional theme is catharsis, and this works on many levels (and for several characters) throughout the film. To go any further would be to go into spoiler territory.

It's almost been three weeks since I've had any weed. I'm feeling punchy.

As for emotional reaction, there are fluctuations between two overriding feelings of exhilaration and relief.

Sure there are other feelings, moods, and nuances that will register, but the E & R are the most prominent.

In a summer filled mostly with underwhelming releases (that weren't limited to Landmark or the Angelika), Warner couldn't have picked a better time to release something with some substance to it.

Howard, bro...you know I love ya, but I have to take exception to your 'stop being hyperbolic' rant.

#1 - you're NOT me, and I have every right to have my overwhelmingly positive reaction.
#2 - you haven't seen it yet. For all that you know, you'll love it even more than I do.

Also, I'm not another 'Nolan is GOD' type fanboy. I think that 'Batman Begins' and 'The Dark Knight' are both terribly overrated films. They're very intelligent and competently made, but they both strike me as being very cold and mechanical with very little emotional resonance. I actually enjoyed 'The Prestige' much more than either Batman film, even though THAT is fairly cold as well. Up until 'Inception', I've been of the opinion that 'Memento' was STILL his best film. THIS film is where everything comes together correctly, including the much needed emotional punch.

Where did I say stop being hyperbolic? I simply stated that people have been crossing the hyperbole line. An observation, nothing more. Certainly not a rant. Hyperbole again? Perhaps.
