True. But I will say that at least the big romantic gesture felt earned, even if a lot of the rest of the film was bullshit.

In a sense, ACTION FILMS and CHICK FLICKS are very similar:
- they both have tried and true formulas that are rarely deviated from.
- they are generally 100% predictable after 8 minutes of screentime.
- they have loyal fans that will watch all of them regardless of any perceived quality.

Watching a film from either genre is like slipping on an old pair of shoes...it's comfortable and provides a (hopefully) entertaining means of killing a couple of hours.

Those are details. You knew he was going to die and, it being an Arnie film, it would probably be memorable.

It's those DETAILS that separate the wheat from the Chaff in either genre.

You bet your ass it is, my good man! That's the chick flick version of soft core porn.

George is pretty open-minded. He never minds seeing a rom-com - whether or not he'll wind up liking that particular movie is another story, but he's very cool about seeing them.

Now, an ex of mine ONLY liked rom-coms, which was the whole problem in our relationship. He was so totally into rom-coms that he wouldn't watch anything else, and he honestly thought that's how relationships worked - I'm not kidding either. His favorite movie was "Notting Hill", and while I love Hugh Grant Rom-Coms, that's pretty much when you know the relationship is in huge trouble, when one party believes that's what it's really like. For example, after I dumped him - in August - he called me around 11:30 PM on New Year's Eve to tell me he loved me and to ask me to take him back. And I was like, "Here we go - one guess who must have just watched 'When Harry Met Sally'." I turned him down, of course, because he didn't realize that gazing lovingly into each other's eyes and murmuring "I love you" back and forth didn't fix a whooooole lot of issues in the relationship. He thought that's all it took, and sorry, most grown ups know that a good, healthy relationship sometimes takes work. It's not all sunshine and cookies.

Which is a very roundabout way of saying that I can proudly watch rom-coms and chick-flicks and not get sucked into the fantasy that they feed you at the end!
