Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah! Judas/Matt seems like the right age & temprament to have been into this guy. I wouldn't be surprised to hear him chime in. But are any of the rest of you old (or tasteful) enough to remember & admire this Irish 80's guitar hero?
I only own 2 albums of his, Wild Frontier and Victims of the Future, but I'm a dedicated fan based on those two alone. The story told by "Over the Hills & Far Away" (which is not a cover of the Zeppelin tune of the same name), the Celtic pride in "Johnny Boy" and "Thunder Rising", and the haunting beauty of the instrumental, "The Loner" make Wild Frontier a solid, solid album. Moore's guitar work goes from blistering solos that I figure Eddie Van Halen was listening to, to melodic leads almost as good as Gilmour at his best. Excellent stuff.
I think I like Victims just a bit better, because there's more solid tunes on it (a cover of the Yardbird's "Shapes of Things", near & dear to my heart for all time because it's the 1st bass line I ever learned, "Murder in the Skies", about the Russians shooting down Korean flight 007 - remember that?- , "Empty Rooms", "Law of the Jungle". . . all excellent 80's era hard rock. Maybe his guitar work isn't as varied as it is on Frontier - it's almost all the blistering solos here, and a bit less of the melodic leads - but it's just an awesome album.
