I love Hal Ashby normally and I know so many people that put Harold and Maude on a pedestal.
As I said, you could do this and populate a list entirely from 80s genre films. You could also legitimately do it with artier fare. A film that you can watch any time doesn't have to just be fun. Something like Jesse James is hypnotic for me and another film that I've watched a couple of times every year since it came out, at the very least. From a visual and performance and music and sheer craft level, its impossible for me to not watch it. And that's how I judge a favourite film. If pushed, I'd say my 2 favourite films of all time are probably Die Hard and Raising Arizona. And as throwaway as both of those films may be to some, they encapsulate most of what great cinema is about.
Just wanted to throw that out there.I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane.

Also, for me this encapsulates what Podcaust/BDR is about for me.
In no order...
- Dawn of the Dead (70's/2k's)
- Hackers
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- The Empire Strikes Back
- Sin City - MARV SEQUENCE ONLY
- American Movie
- The Thing
- Night of the Living Dead (60s/90s)
- The Devil's Rejects
- A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
- WarGames
- First Blood
- The Fifth Element
- Ghostbusters
- Friday the 13th Part IV
- The Lawnmower Man
- The Monster Squad
- Shaun of the Dead
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- Reservoir Dogs
I have a feeling this will be edited at some point (as tomorrow I'll kick my own ass for forgetting some movie I LOVE AND OMG IT'S THE GREATEST), but off the top of my head if I had to choose only 20 movies to watch over and over these are the ones.
What are yours?- Dawn of the Dead (70's/2k's)
- Hackers
- Raiders of the Lost Ark
- The Empire Strikes Back
- *Sin City - MARV SEQUENCE ONLY* - The Final Girls - NEW
- American Movie
- The Thing
- Night of the Living Dead (60s/90s)
- *The Devil's Rejects* - Jurassic Park (shut it, I love this fucking movie)
- A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
- WarGames
- First Blood
- The Fifth Element
- Ghostbusters
- Friday the 13th Part IV
- The Lawnmower Man
- The Monster Squad
- Shaun of the Dead
- Close Encounters of the Third Kind
- *Reservoir Dogs* - Jackie Brown (always a toss up but I've come to terms that I just prefer Jackie Brown over pretty much every other one of QT's movies)
"Looking like Nic Cage dressed in Kurt Cobain's closet. I mean that as a compliment" - BillyG
"Too cunty for wine bars, too dainty for real bars." - Anderson
