it's AMAZING just how much that sequence adds to the film in terms of character and empathy. WHY does he go? WHAT is his attitude towards life? WHY does he have the reaction that he does to Pandora? I'd go so far as to say that that little sequence gives Jake his soul.

Fuckin right. I wouldn't have bought it without your tipoff in the blu thread, so thanks. Saw it twice in the cinema but this time was my favourite. I think that little extra bit at the top (and am I right in saying there were additional flying/hunting scenes) really adds a lot.

It might not be my favourite Cameron film - it's gonna be nigh impossible to topple The Terminator - but I honestly think Avatar is his masterpiece. It unites everything he's been doing for 30 years into something unique.

I think so, but I don't have the theatrical cut memorized to the point that I'm 100% sure of WHAT was added to the meat of the film.

I'd put 'The Terminator' and 'The Abyss' as his best films, but 'Avatar' went up a whole lotta slots with this new cut.

I'll never forget back in either '93 or '94. I went to Smart & Final with my dad and in the checkout line next to us. There was this huge overflowing cart filled with food. (Smart & Final is a bulk store) and the guy buying the stuff was buying stuff for True Lies.
