Ya know, I'm gonna break down and watch that again, V. I think that most of the flak that the film takes is due to the fact that 'Tombstone' is SO FUCKING GOOD in comparison.

That's the thing that weirds me out.
Who do you want in the director's chair?
George PAN Cosmatos? A mediocre talent at best?
Or Lawrence Kasdan? Someone who has a few classics under his belt.
It's kind of 'Bizarro World-ish" when you sit and think on it.

What HAPPENED was Lawrence let the 'importance' of the story bog down the narrative. His film sinks under its own weight and isn't very fun.Originally posted by MartinWho the fuck is Kellan Lutz?Originally posted by gravediggerBasically what I'm saying is that, based on what I've watched so far, we should all listen to Matt more often.Originally posted by MartinAnd who the FUCK is Peaches Geldof?

Well, it's always possible for a good/great filmaker to step on their own dick (it happens all the time). It's always possible for a gun-for-hire journeyman director to be handed the RIGHT script at the RIGHT time and deliver a film that totally exceeds the expectations of everyone.
'Tombstone' could VERY EASILY have sucked if it had been over-directed. Anything showy...anything other than a point-and-shoot approach could have been distracting; the script was awesome and the film was cast PERFECTLY, so anything the focus was on the performances rather than the 'craft'.
Also, 'Tombstone' lets the characters and the audience HAVE FUN.
'Wyatt Earp' was, as I recall, deadly serious about the subject matter...to a fault. Let's strip away the myth and explore the man...let's focus on the IMPORTANCE of everything to the extent that we remove any 'fun' or 'entertainment value'. Again, I need to see it again before I can really judge it, but I remember it being laborious and slow.
Although I haven't seen the new 'Robin Hood', I suspect that this would be an appropriate analogy:
'Tombstone' is to 'Wyatt Earp'
as
'The Adventures of Robin Hood' is to 'Robin Hood'.Originally posted by MartinWho the fuck is Kellan Lutz?Originally posted by gravediggerBasically what I'm saying is that, based on what I've watched so far, we should all listen to Matt more often.Originally posted by MartinAnd who the FUCK is Peaches Geldof?

And I'm one of the few people that I know that actively dislikes 'Silverado'. I've seen it a few times and honestly never cared for it. I'll take 'Pale Rider' any day.Originally posted by MartinWho the fuck is Kellan Lutz?Originally posted by gravediggerBasically what I'm saying is that, based on what I've watched so far, we should all listen to Matt more often.Originally posted by MartinAnd who the FUCK is Peaches Geldof?
