    • I watched 'White Guilt Football Movie' with Sandra Bullock. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't THE REVELATION that everyone made it out to be. It's hard to bitch about the fact that it's predictable when it's actually based upon a true story, but yeah...there wasn't a single surprise or truly tense/riveting moment in the entire film. It all kinda happens. I don't regret seeing it, but I never ever need to see it again.

I would rent it over and over and over and force people to watch it.
Be extremely careful with Tideland. I have it but held off because it sounds extremely fucked up. I'm with you though. Gilliam has to be one of my favorite directors of all time.

          • Gilliam's version of FLLV is visually incredible. The "story" can't really be done justice because of HST's style. Love the movie and the Criterion edition has incredible extras.

            • Not Quite Hollywood, about the Aussie exploitation movies. Really great documentary, and worth watching for the insane stunts pulled off with zero safety nets. Oh, and tons of great 70s bush.

              • As I previously implied my lack of enjoyment of it in some other thread, I just watched Fat Kilmer in The Saint.

It has elements that read well on paper: Patriot Games/Clear and Present Danger-era Phillip Noyce, post-Batmeng Kilmer, post-Vegas Elisabeth Shue, and pre-Boris the Blade/"Nice coat" Homeless Gothamite Rade Surebedyah (sp).

It ends up not knowing whether it wants to maintain the initial Bond-lite tone or delve into a more serious political thriller. It unfortunately stays in this tonal limbo for the rest of the picture, and all I can say is I wish they had done a sequel just to see what franchise would grow out of the lukewarm first installment. Kilmer was clearly having fun, I just wish there were more of it here.

But I stand by my earlier statement: the soundtrack was, and still is fucking fantastic.

Despite their very puritanical views on video games. God bless, Australia.

It's thoroughly mediocre, but I still love it. Kilmer is entirely TOO MUCH FUN in this, and he carries every scene with great gusto...more gusto than the movie really needs, frankly. The plot could have been better (hidden fuel oil? really?), but that's a minor gripe.

Speaking of Noyce, he also did a some decent thriller some years back called "Catch a Fire" featuring Tim Robbins as an Afrikaner cop.
