  • Well...Kevin Conroy is pure sex-panther when it comes to the Batman voice.

No one is better at it, but Bale tries his damnedest to keep to the character's behavior.

I shall not waver from the Baleman blinders I have on at present. But yes, Conroy takes the crown.

    • FIDO- Amusing but not laugh out loud funny. Carrie Anne Moss is pretty hot as a '50's housewife.

Should be seeing THE DARK KNIGHT today or tomorrow. Excited!

      • Yeah, FIDO was okay but Billy and Carrie made up any shortcomings for me. Plus that bastard kid got what was coming to him.

        • Gremlins: Oh Spielberg and Dante. How I love that this was a PG film. Still was pretty decent even today. Loved the puppet effects, the music, the santa story. And the Futterman's are awesome still.

Goodfellas: I have to admit I had never seen this movie all the way through. I'm not a fan of gangster movies. Now if I had seen this in the 90's, totally awesome. But I didn't. Like every fucking gangster movie the most interesting parts for me are always the beginning. Seeing the main character grow up in the world. Once they make it big it bores the fuck out of me. And of course we all know they will fall. I dunno, the cinematography was aces, some of the tracking shots fucking owned and I loved the use of music in scenes. I fucking hate Joe Pesci though. HATE. But DeNiro and Liotta ruled.

              • Se7en...err, Seven.

It has been about five or six years since I had seen it, and left much of the specifics to the part of my brain that is a designated "forget all that shit, let's go play some Yahtzee". Needless to say, I had a refresher course yesterday.

Story-wise, it is taut, brutal, and has enough fresh character beats to keep it in the genre conventions. And in lies the genius part: just when you get used to the setup (buddy cops in the city, tracking a killer) it takes those conventions, puts them into a blender, and tears them to shreds in favor of a wonderfully disgusting liquid. Shit, I sound like Peter Travers.

Pitt and Freeman are perfectly cast as rookie and veteran. Freeman is especially great as the calm, reserved Detective Sommerset. Pitt plays annoying, angry Detective Mills like an actor who lost a casting call to D.J. Qualls, becoming more jaded and frustrated as the movie chugs along.

Of course, the ending still hits like a freight-train. But what got to me this time around, was the conversation on the way to the "what's in the box" scene. Doe is a sick bastard, but he definitely has a point. That is what I find the most unsettling. I don't empathize with the fucker, but he does have a point (as does Sommerset) in regards to tolerance in an immoral and decaying world.

Anyway, I had forgotten how incredible the production design was in this film. Everything felt rotten, lived in (squalor), a world that was going to shit. John Doe's apartment is especially amazing (the fucking production design team spent two months on his notebook collection alone). The locations were each as varied as the gruesome events that unfold, and the decision to keep the city name anonymous was perfect.

Just watch the fuck out if you live somewhere that rains all the damn time.

                • I can't agree more Russ. That movie was/is brutal and fantastically shot. One of my favorite Fincher flicks next to Zodiac and Fight Club. And the scene with Doe in the car worked perfectly because for a moment you totally see where he's coming from and almost start to agree, until you snap back to reality. And seeing that movie in the theater was aces because of the fact they had kept Spacey's name off of everything and it was a huge surprise. Still works perfectly in my eyes.

                    • It was made even better because I was in 9th grade and was not prepared for what I was going to see. I had not seen any trailers or anything really.

                          • finshed the second season of eureka over the weekend and also watched batman: the movie (1966).

eureka is just an amazingly written scifi show for nerdy nerds. basically a "detective show" set in a town of "what ifs?" totally dug it and can't wait for the new season to start on the 29th. scifi channel ordered 21! episodes, so i'm super psyched about that.

batman: the movie... good gravy! the transfer on blu-ray was amazing. i couldn't find a speck of grain. the campiness is over the top, the villians were fantastic, and awesome quotes. you just can't go wrong with quotes like: "some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb" and "holy heart failure!" good times. good times.
