  • Those flicks are on my list as possible new choices. I know nothing about them except that based on the fact Becky has Wrath now, and you dig it, then I guess I'll be bumping up the first one on the list.

#16 - The Babysitter - Lesley's second choice and still fucking rocks. One of those flicks that I am so glad I still went in completely blind last year during our Halloween marathon and loved it. This year for fun I decided to actually read the stupid description and then watched the trailer and JFC at that point it would really diminish some of the fun for a first watch. Either way, movie still rocks. 4 spookies outta 5.

#17 - American Werewolf in London - My second choice and as above, still fucking rocks. This time I had the Arrow 4k disc that I hadn't checked out yet and it looked the best I've seen this movie look. The FX are still insane for the time (and really, look better than that abysmal Wolfman remake we watched earlier in the month..ooof) but I still do not like the main character as an actor personally so it's almoooost a perfect movie.

    • American Werewolf in London was THE gateway for me and horror in general. Sure, it freaked me out when I was a teen watching it with my brother, so much so that we split after Dave's nightmare with his family. From the local cinema up the street from our house. At night. With a full moon. And neighbor's dogs howling. (shivers)

But it helped me move on from the standard, classic horror flicks I grew up (Universal Monsters, Hammer films, Godzilla/Gamera films, the Munsters and Addams Family, etc.), and I became the gorehound and special effects worshipper I am today.

Re: the Becky flicks - you're in for a great ride. Both films have some pretty gruesome stuff (ask Kevin James!) and you have to pay attention to some minutia, but I found them very entertaining. Wrath of Becky gets comedic at points, and it works to a point, but still a pretty cool flick. Definitely need a follow up film or two.

      • Tremors was my 4th pick of our "5 movies from a franchise" rule for this year. I fucking love this movie so much. Everything works, it's tightly written, and clips along at the perfect pace. Also, Burt Gummer rules. The 4k version of this that Arrow put out is great. I'm still bummed that tv show pitch or whatever fell through...I cannot deal with any of the sequels (the ones I've tried at least) but it would have been nice to see Bacon back in action. Still sad we lost Fred though : (

Everyone here and on the forums who told me this would not be my jam were 100% correct. This will tie back into my rant about streaming and compression but holy shit I knew I was in for a bad time when in the first 5 minutes it was both too dark, too pixelated, too quiet, and too loud.

Fuck this movie up until the last 10 minutes, and then fuck everything after

          • When Evil Lurks - FUUUUuuuuuuuuck. Anderson mentioned this in the BDR discord channel a few days ago and we checked it out (as we were running out of time) and nothing about it helped as I would assume the trailer would spoil some awesome shots, but damn I was not expecting to dig this as much as I did. This was fucking brutal and didn't pull any punches. I There is one scene with an animal that, while you totally know what's coming, it hits hard and a quick cut of its

The practical effects are amazingly disgusting in a way that had me wincing and realizing how stale most modern horror flicks in this particular genre have been. Such a cool idea executed extremely well and I will be buying this on disc as soon as I can.

Candyman remake - terrible. As a kid, compared to Freddy or Jason, Candyman did nothing for me. Never watched it again. I was also a dumb kid who liked dumb things. After this movie though, the original can't be any worse and maybe I just wasn't the right age or mindset when I first watched it. This could have been somewhat neat but broke its own rules and when the end credits animation was more entertaining than the actual movie then maybe I need to give the original another chance. Bare minimum find the animation stuff from the movie. It's incredibly visually interesting. But passsssss.

Spoiler: spoilers I guess if you wanted to watch this nonsense
One tiny tweak of making the cop be imaginary and she was one of the kids trying to get supernatural justice would have at least made sense instead of knowing full well what was going on with the kids, also no one cares about the aunt, I guess? And Hunger Games is fine with learning what said cop did? Terrible.

I am not the audience for this and if I was 12 I'd personally be bored (I grew up with horror and this PG-13 nonsense would have been something my grandma would have dragged me to) and would rather play the games as even now those games are dumb but scarier than this movie. It wanted to be better than it could ever have been.

            • Return to Salem's Lot - Wow. Just wow. This is Midnight Mass but I had fun with it. (no way is it better but it's basically the same story overall) I saw the original and read the story so long ago but had no idea there was a sequel nor do I have any idea if this was a slapdash script to capitalize on an older movie that didn't do that great? This movie felt like Troll 2 in terms of story, acting, directing, etc. I was no prepared for how bad this was but fuck was it fun to make fun of. No character acts like a real person at any point except the kid who I felt bad for. Why would a bit of spooky stuff stop him from trying marry his child bride Tara Reid and also, being a kid vampire is the worst thing as far I know? No little kid vampire likes being a little kid vampire. The Nazi Killer was a nice touch and that old man was the best thing in the movie and came out ofno where. So over the top and ridiculous. I also learned you can just grab a child by the scruff of their neck and they lose all power. Such a dumb fucking movie but had a bunch of fun making fun of it. It felt like a bunch of porno movies where all of the scenes were removed and you were just left with the "acting" stuff before and after. I liked the soundtrack sounding like the NES Castlevania theme. lol Bad....

              • Lumet movies.

                Prince of the City:

Treat Williams is put through the hurt locker of being both an informant and a pawn in a back and forth between his friends on the blue line and the feds who see him as an expendable mook in their crusade to try and convict corrupt cops and mobsters in a web of conspiracy.

Williams does an exceptional job of playing Danny Ciello (based on real ass dude Robert Leuci) who starts off as a corrupted policeman who has a hell of a dark night of the soul.

The film moves at a speed I wasn't expecting, and has a fantastic ensemble that includes stand out performances by Jerry Orbach (as one of Danny's badge-wielding pals) and Bob Balaban (as a fed prosecutor with a calculating vindictiveness that pushes one poor bastard to the edge when he's caught taking a payout). James Tolkan as well does a fantastic job as a prosecutor without an empathetic bone in his body.

All around, it is dark in terms of subject matter, but is a solid procedural film that takes the time to show the near dissolution of somebody wanting to do the right thing once they've stepped back from the edge.

                Q&A.

                Nick Nolte's finest hour.

This is also a Lumet film that takes up the subject of corruption, but with more stylization, sleaze, and bombast. And with way more Armand Assante mullet.

As the most corrupt cop on the fucking planet Mike Brennan, Nick Nolte dances circles around everybody else in the film when he's on screen. He is a man in a spiraling game of planted evidence, blackmail, and everything in between.

A white knight attorney in Tim Hutton and a couple of cops who have ties to Brennan in Luis Guzman and Charles S. Dutton are tasked with taking him--and many others caught in his warpath--down.

The bodies of witnesses pile up with rapidity as the noose around Brennan tightens.

The climax still shocks with how sideways everything goes, but it is one for the books.

Currently going through the Mission:Impossible flicks before we check out the latest one as this time, I just ordered it on disc and watching the others digitally atm. Fun stuff. I know this is not the movie that people usually think of first but MI 3 always reminds me how great Philip Seymore Hoffman was. He fucking owns so hard in it. So gooooood. Also, lol to the other agents besides Simon Pegg as I do not remember them at all nor do I remember if they show up later so either that's on me or their lack of charisma or character story....

Personally, I think 5/ROGUE NATION is the best of the films.
1, 4, 6, and 7 are fighting for second place.

The Killer. ZzzzzZzZzzzzzZzzz. Miscast, boring, checked out within 30 mins of Fassbender's monologue that never ends.

                          • Godzilla Minus One.

Solid hugh man drama wrapped around the lizard's emergence. Post war Japan's survivors are given a symbol to fight a just war for survival here using ingenuity that is right out of Jaws.

The fact it's made for pennies is noticeable at times, but the places where it counts are good enough for the effects to work. The Ginza sequence's end is worth the price of admission alone.

Slight marks off for the main character's amateurish acting at times. He seemed to be a bit of a miscast in comparison to the other characters, but his arc is good. That and some of the pacing is strange toward the finale.

                            The boat crew rules though.

                            • Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The first train scene was a great Indy movie. The rest of it was a good adventure movie where Indy is there. Better than Kingdom by a mile, Dug Phoebe's character, the new Short Round was forgettable and Mads is always fun to watch.

The de-aging was done really fucking well BUT why would they keep old man voice? That opening shot was terrible when he opened his mouth. It got better as the movie used it more, but overall I had a bunch of fun with it. No more Indy. It's done.

NGL, I thought for a moment they were gonna do some weird ass Indy Multiverse.

Also, this probably only bothered me, but they done did Mutt dirty. A single line was a bummer but it is what it is.
